170kg man wins compo from airline | NEWS.com.au

A FRENCHMAN who weighs 170kg has won a court case against Air France after it made him buy a second seat on a flight from New Delhi to Paris, he said.

Jean-Jacques Jauffret, a 43-year-old screen-writer, said he was deeply humiliated when airline staff measured his girth with wrapping tape in front of other passengers at New Delhi airport.

Air France was ordered to pay €8000 ($13,600) in damages and to reimburse the cost of his second seat, in a ruling delivered last Friday.

I don't quite agree with the compensation awarded but I agree with the decision. The checkin staff had no right to humiliate someone in public. Discretion could have been used.

The other point that was made is also relevant. Does an airline carry people or kilos? Anyway we have had this debate on a number of occassions so I will leave it alone....

Now there's a can of worms being opened if ever there was one :!:

When a man eats that much, please don't go opening a can of anything nearby.. :)

Oops. How about Krispy Kreme :?:
Oh, those Krispy Kreme outlets in Sydney airport are just asking for trouble, aren't they? :p

I once sat, on a Perth - Brisbane flight, next to a guy whose belly hung out from under his shirt, over the armrest, and onto me. I had to squeeze myself against the window to avoid this sweat dripping blob that had invaded the space that I had paid for. Perhaps I should have sued for compo !!

I did thankyou for you subsidising my flight though.
