Hi All,

a bit of a double whammy on my end. Been observing EK First reward flights in preparation to redeem x2 for Mrs and I coming back from Europe at the end of the year, once they are released.

With the news today, only Silver QFF members will have access. And I also just found out my MH flight will not earn my any SC. I am currently at 284 SC, with no planned travel until my membership refreshes on 31st of March. I have only been in Bronze and most of the SC this membership year has been from holidays. The points increase for EK first is a tough one to swallow, but I believe I can accumulate enough QFF points then. I don't foresee I will be Silver anytime soon if I don't achieve it this year.

I have Points Club Plus and am based in Melb. I am considering redeeming a QF J flight to Sydney to get me 18 SC (Am I correct?) to cross over to Silver, and then a cheap cash jetstar flight back on the same day.

Am I insane or sane for doing this just for silver haha. The silver lining is I got to experience EK F return SYD-CHC last year, but would be great to end my Europe trip with it.

That close I think it would be hard to argue against doing that status run.

If there’s a double status credits offer soon you might be able to get there more cost effectively on points, but it’s possible the offer could come in March/April not giving you enough time to easily find something (or too late to book flights in time) and cash fares would likely keep on going up as the flying date gets closer.

If you've got a specific redemption in mind seems like a reasonable use of points. Would two Y redemptions be cheaper?

Seems like you'd be best to focus on cash flights to not burn into the points balance.

You could do a more creative CR option MEL-xx_-YYY in whY for the same points as MEL-YYY.

eg MEL-ABX-SYD (or possibly via CBR?) is the same 9,200 pts + a little more dollars as MEL-SYD, but should earn 7+7 SCs. Then SYD-MEL direct is another 7 SCs (21 in total) for 18,400 pts and ~$120.

MEL-SYD in J (if you can find one before your end of member year) will be 19,300 pts + $ but you still need that other flight. Yes, a flight in J would be nicer than 2x whY - granted.

Does Mrs FF9B have silver? Do the new rules mean you would both havecto be silver?
