As for 2 years... given LTG I'd probably stick with QF, though my question is, if one has LTG and doesn't manage to fly the 4 QF~ sectors, do you still remain Gold status for a membership year, or does LTG override the 4~? (I would suspect yes, but unsure). in that case, your need to continue QF sectors would be minimal though if going to retain/make WP, the 4~ could come into play (I am not yet LTG.. ask me in a week lol).

Lifetime you don't need the Qantas sectors, the card has no expiry, you do of course need them if you want to get to Platinum so it is shown on your account, though they do say you need to keep status, but LTG (or LTS) that doesn't apply.

Well just an opinion with others way more versed in this sort of thing than me but it's an interesting question. Would QF Gold (congrats on LTG :) ) status still get BA lounge access if credited to another FFP? We know that, for example in CBR, QF has cracked down if FF status/number on BP does not match credentials used for lounge access, but that just may be QF.

It is fine. Raises some eyebrows with BA staff, but they understand how to deal with it (I have QF WP, and used that for lounge access for nearly a year while I was building up my BA Gold status)

Option 2 became very unattractive. In former times those cash upgrades booked into I or R Class.
Now they book into "U" Class, which is the award class.
The availability was reduced dramatically with that and there are big fears that you only get the Discount Y SCs!

I only had one flight in "U" and it luckily was credited with Business SCs. I decided for myself not to use the cash upgrades in purpose of SC earning any more! Crossover ticketing does the trick.

Recent experience seems to suggest that these POUGs always credit as J to BAEC and have credited fine as J to QFF despite the booking class change. I must say I wouldn't be keen to take the risk that they didn't in the OPs particular situation. Of course, the POUG is not always offered-presumably loads make a difference and possibly past use of them.

What would you think of 2yrs relocation to MAN as a QF LTG? Stay with QF or join BAEC but use QF for lounge and other benefits, or won't this work?

If based in UK I'd want some BA points, at least for short haul awards, and chances are you would accrue more miles crediting to BA than QFF (unless flying on QF). I'd rather spend 7,500 Avios + 20 GBP than 14,000 QFF points + 50 GBP (eg one way MAN-LHR-FCO). Once you have LTG it is worth using one or several programs to match your needs, not just blindly continue with QFF, especially if based outside Australia. That's the philosophy I've used since moving to Singapore as a LTG (at least once I lost WP).

Also from experience as LTG, lounge access usually works OK. One concern is lounge dragon not admitting to lounge because gold status not on BP, or having a card without expiry date! Although this can be managed coughbersomely by changing it, entering lounge, and then changing it back.

I'm in that stage where at present in WP, but as that it likely to drop in next few months to SG (earned not soft landing or LTG) and the move to MAN is not for a while, I am toying with crediting all my QF flights to BAEC from dropping to start the points accumulation.

Decisions Decisions. LTP would throw a spanner in the works, but we've all been told that's not on the table.

As well as BA, Finnair (AY) and Iberia might be options.
Their business class fares are cheap, and I earned 40 SCs each way MAD-LIS with IB, and 80 SCs on HEL-MAD, 60 SCs HEL-PRG and 40 SCs CPH-HEL with AY.
This was in September 2014, after the "simpler fairer" changes.

When flying Qantas, it may make sense to credit to BAEC for travel in premium cabins and on economy fares in Y, B and H. For other economy fare classes, only earning Avios at 25% of the miles flown is a bit of a disincentive (although they still earn tier points at disc economy rate).

I'm in the process of relocating to LON for twelve months and this thread has become invaluable to me. I have no issue with the 4~ but it's great to hear about the status runs intra Europe. Thanks guys.
