The rush is because we have to book the flights for 18/01...and thats not too far away. If we don't get enough points...not a problem...already booked in economy with virgin.
I hope you are able to get it if that is what you want. Good luck.

I agree with JohnK on this one but do find it hilarious that it is the same person arguing this that carried on like a pork chop for days because some Virgin upgrade wasn't "true business class".

Sorry I was referring to JohnK. Very knowledgable poster but I find his contradictions hilarious!!
Hmmm.

I purchased Virgin "business class" SYD-CNS and used one of my complimentary upgrades on a TSV-BNE flight. I sat in an economy seat on both flights,

How is that contradictory to my original statement? Fair is fair.

In your defence JohnK I agree with you on the VA 'J" questionable class issue.

Never flown business before....and we fly PER-SYD stay overnight then SYD-HNL (cannot get any business class seats)...so at least the 1st part of our trip will be a bit different :) Its not that important...but would be a nice way to start off our holiday :)

purchasing QF points and redeeming them for domestic J is not the best way to get to use them... If you have never flown business, I would do it on an international trip. J domestic is underwhelming (at least on QF)

Thanks for all the help...and advice everyone :)

Why don't you buy Flexi Saver QF tickets and upgrade these straight away for only 10000 points per person per sector? Check to make sure there U inventory first but this could be more cost effective. You could even get a red e-deal on the cheap and its still only 16000 to upgrade each sector.

Just be careful - U doesn't always equal a successful upgrade request.

Not the end of the world. Virgin saw it fit to compensate me for the questionable "business class" experience.

Still dont know how that is related to my comment in this thread.

When does this happen in respect domestic flight upgrades? (Except in the event if you put the request in before you have been ticketed) I have never been declined when there has been U seats.

It does happen from time to time. There does seem to be some form of control that limits the number of U upgrades.
Sometimes canceling the request and resubmitting it works sometimes it doesn't.

Just thought id update this :)

Change of plans... we are now flying J QF Perth - Brisbane...then J QF Brisbane - Los Angeles. So not going via Honolulu...but we are getting to LA a few days earlier.

All thanks to Alaskan Air :)...was $3400 for both of us PER-LAX in J :)

Was that a ripper deal or what, additional 35% gratis, need to be real careful when booking BNE/SYD to LAX via AK they have those awful pop ups that say x sector is in Y and another sector is in J.

I have 120K Alaskan Air miles doing 2 x J CNS/HKG/CNS all up was AUD$3100.

Yep awesome deal...:)

I found the best way to search was to use american airlines website..as they only show the full J bookings.,..then when I see an available seat...go back to Alaska and book :)
