Qantas Domestic then International Flight

My inlaws have a flight tomorrow all on the same booking MEL-BNE-MNL in J, Is there a special checkin process within MEL or do you follow the domestic checkin process to have the baggage checked all the way through?

Checking will be at MEL domestic, and bags should be thru-checked.

The normal business check-in counter at domestic T1 will handle it.

Yes tell them go to the business class checkin .give them passports and say your flying to Manila .
Make sure they don’t have liquid in carry on .

There are manned check in desks at MEL T1 (instead of the automated kiosks) where you can check in for domestic flights connecting to an international flight. They'll do the required international checks for final destination such as scanning your passport and checking visas (except for US security questions).
They will issue boarding passes for both flights and check bags through. You'll just have to use the terminal transfer bus in BNE.

it closes 1hr before on the dot .
So I guess be there 2hrs before like at the checkin desk .

Normal cut off time for a domestic flight. Qantas website quotes this as 30 mins before departure for MEL T1.
I'd get there around 90-120 mins ahead in case of delays at check in/security.
