Rather than creating another thread - thought I should ask my Q here - as it is in the same ballpark

Looking at a Qatar flight to europe next year and trying to maximise benefits. Am QF WP and just lost gold with Velocity.

Some questions

* I assume any flight i take that is a VA flight on QR metal (even booked through QR website with a QR flight code) won't credit points or status?
* I note that WP gets me seat selection regardless. Can i make the booking entering the QF membership, and then switch to VA to get the points/status?
* Lastly - if I do the above - will I lose lounge access?

I have tried the switching FF numbers before QR flights, using QF number for seat selection and then VA for crediting. It seems to work if you change it from QF to VA just before checking in and getting a BP. If you change it too long before checking in, you will lose the OW seat selection. In other words, I actually change it whilst in the queue to physically check in...

Ex SYD there are two flights SYD-DOH
QR909 (can be booked as a VA codeshare VA6131), alongside a bunch of others (WY6076 B66529 WB1441 AY6652 JU8336 BA6396 IB6273)
VA1 (QR8400)

To get the QF elites benefits believe you need to book the QR909 flight on the QR code (ie. Oneworld code on oneworld metal, albeit you won't earn as many SCs/ points as flying QF or QF code on EK)

This is the advice I need ! Thank you

Albeit - im thinking it might impact seat selection on future legs (might change it on return flights

Did it impact lounge access at all?

Switching FF numbers is always difficult..
Id probably only be trying after you have accessed the QF (or NZ) lounge. Maybe go to gate early.

In theory you'd want FQTV to Virgin and FQTS to Qantas but best of luck finding a staff member who can do that.

Oh good to know, so the VA flights with QR can be booked using QR codes?
