Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

On that non official map posted by Quickstatus, none of the yellow metro line opens until 2032 and there no stations beyond Paramatta nor past Hunter St guaranteed yet.

The 2032 opening is for Paramatta to Hunter St and primary purpose of that is to get busses off Paramatta Rd, no mention of getting people to/from WSI or SYD (already can get from Five Dock to SYD in 12 mins using M4/M8).

Meanwhile tunnel from Olympic Park to Hunter St is already complete, part of it was open for a walk through a couple of weekends ago. Enbarassing its going to take another 6 years to lay some track and build a few platforms.

Goodness knows how much longer to add anything beyond Paramatta or Hunter St - unlikely to be before the 2040s if ever.

Even some of the bits on the official metro map as posted by Seatbackforward are at risk of not happening.

This is a far more realistic map of the works that have been commissioned, and also provides indication of the distances involved with connection
And also note the cost of rail.
That St.Marys to Bradfield section (or Western Sydney Airport Metro - the dark blue line on the left on SBFs map) is $11bn, over double the cost of the airport itself.
And it's a predominantly above ground line which is generally cheaper than underground in greenfield areas.

Presumably there will be some "funny business" re fares on the spur line between St Marys and WSI - no different to the funny business train fares to the SYD airport as there will be a private manager of that part of the Metro who will manage it for 15 years post construction.
Not the case as the WSA Metro is funded by both the state and federal governments, Parklife Metro is just the consortium selected to build and operate it. No different to the MTR-led consortium operating the current Metro.

The current NSW government ruled out new extensions before 2040 so make of that what you will.
