I haven't had a detailed look, but seems pretty straightforward.

[Edit: Mind that there are a heap of excluded booking types for this promotion as listed here:

The trouble here is that I can't see the booking code anywhere - presumably it appears on the booking page when you actually book! Too late to change it then]

How do you find out the rate plan, particularly for reservations already made? I've got several in the system but alongside the rate type is simply says Advance purchase. There aren't any random letters or numbers as in the table.

Yes, great question. I can't find anything either. Looking at the table of exclusions seems like they've just about wrapped up every sort of Advance Payment you could imagine. I might email hhonors just to tweak them about this though - promotions like this seem pointless to me (pun intended) if there are myriad exclusions and T&C's along with a basic lack of information from the company.

Most Advance Purchase rates I have booked in this neck of the woods is PR09AP.

In the booking engine, when you see the line:

ADVANCE PURCHASE FULL PREPAYMENT, NO REFUND OR CHANGES (more)

Click on More, the look through the URL and you will see something like "ratePlan=PR09AP" in the link.

Thanks for the heads-up oz_mark. Gives me something to go on, but its a bit of an ask for hhonors to rely upon pax making that link ... keeping them honest by referring to the contents of an interal search engine search criteria might be a stretch too I'm thinking.

I think I'll tweak them by email anyway.

I did a couple of dummy bookings in Oz and it does indeed seem that PRO9AP is the code - which seems to indicate we'd be included in the 1000 point offer as I don't see this code listed in the exclusions. Worth ringing/emailing to check though I guess.

I just got off the phone with Hilton. I dialled their Australian 1800 number but was answered be Delane (female) in the US. I said I was enquiring about the 1000 points per night promotion and wanted to know if my upcoming stays at the Hilton Sydney are eligible. Delane's quick response was "all stays are eligible, provided you have registered for the promotion before arrival". Obviously, completely contradictory to the information online.

Argh! this just seems to be the way with promotions - no one actually wants to come good, they just want the publicity. Confusion and misinformation reigns.

I would have thought that the backlash from angry customers who feel they've been diddled on a promotion would outweigh the work involved in actually running a smooth campaign.

Everyone seems to do it though. I keep getting mailers from ANZ for their Amex card showing details that are just plain wrong, promotion partners who's offerings expired late last year, etc, etc. Its just really sloppy.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

More than likely, if you stick to fairly standard rates, you will be ok. The exclusions are generally some sort of promotional rate.
