I am sure that anomalies with respect to QF FF miles have been posted in the past but here is one I discovered today while planning to send the family from Norway to the US for a few days.

OSL-LHR-LAX rtt takes 100,000 QF FF miles and about 532 US dollars in taxes. But if you were to purchase the flight outright without points using the same days towards the end of October the flight is only 521 USD and if you credit the miles to AA then about 13000 AA miles even for an Addvantage nobody.

So I am wondering if anyone these days actually still use their QF FF miles on Y fares. Seems like it is best to simply spend my remaining QF FF miles on J fares and enjoy them while they last as international spend on QF FF miles seems to be worthless in Y most of the time.

It seems very hard to get much value out of QF points on Y fares, unless for instance you are wanting to book some flights at a popular time of the year (say around xmas/new year) when the cash fares might be quite high...

But apart from that, yes J and F redemptions seem to be the way to go....

OSL-LAX $500? wow ...

But yeah, maybe buy Y then use points to try and upgrade, rather than buy Y.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That would entirely depend on the situation.

I have been looking at Oneworld airfares for 2 people one-way HKG-BKK economy airfares and the price has been creeping up to around HKD400 each which is ridiculous.

A Qantas award on CX is 28,000 QFF points + ~AUD50 taxes in total for 2 people but the flights are not suitable.

So considering the cash airfare I think that is excellent value. And apologies for cherry picking.
