I notice this promo has started up again but for me it is definitely once bitten - twice shy and after waiting 10 weeks and having to fight all the way to get the 10000 points that IG owed me I will never, ever use this company for share trading ever again.:mad::mad:

The wording for the new promo seems interesting:

4. Each Qualifying Participant who successfully opens a Share Trading Account with us pursuant to Term 3(c)1 above, will earn 10,000 Qantas Points, provided that:

a) the member opening the new account is not already registered with IG, including through registration under a different name or through a different identity;

Does that means I can cancel my account and redo it? o_O

Did you do it through Paypal or through a direct CC deposit?

As a Paypal transaction works as a purchase, whereas a direct CC deposit will be considered as a type of 'cash advance'.

Ah good point. I did direct transfer, not via PayPal. That maybe why.

Which CC treats these as cash advance?

A whole lot of them, I'm not certain they treat them exactly the same as a cash advance (as in they charge a cash advance fee), but I've never seen them issue points and I'm pretty confident you don't get the same interest fee period like you would for a normal purchase - as IG is a financial institution, a lot of the banks systems will pick this up just as they do with gambling deposits.

Ok, do you mind sharing which banks did not issue points under these circumstances?

Has anyone bought shares with IG and planned on keeping them for the medium to long term?

I've done this but am wonder what happens with dividend payments from the shares you purchased via IG.

Normally, with CHESS brokers like Comsec within 10 days or so of buying the shares you get sent forms from the company you purchased shares in. These forms ask for things like your bank account details so that dividend payments can be made direct to you.

I've purchased a number of different shares through IG, but have never received any documentation from the companies concerned.

I realise that IG is not like CHESS, but does anyone know what happens with dividend payments in this situation?

I've go a few ex dates coming up so I'm keen to understand how it will work.

I suspect dividends will be paid into your IG cash account.

Possibly.

But what about the relevant statements that will show franking credit details etc?

And what if I wanted to participate in dividend re-investment schemes?

Seems strange that there's been no communication from the relevant companies.
