[The Guardian]: Consumer and aviation figures call for continued scrutiny as Australian companies post multibillion-dollar profits and ticket prices remain high

A key government program monitoring Australian airlines’ behaviour is ending just as carriers face claims they are overcharging passengers, prompting consumer and aviation figures to call for a dedicated and ongoing inquiry to probe the industry.

Looks like this price-monitoring program was a special measure put in place during Covid is now expiring.

well, seeing QF and VA J fares are poles apart, one does have to wonder why?
Melb-Syd return J VA $665, QF $1,526

worse is seeing the cross continent return J fares priced at same point as a return J flight to say Singapore

SYD - BALI $2,586 J return IS CHEAPER THAN SYD - Kangaroo Island, Darwin, Devonport, Mildura, Mt Isa, Bundaberg,

and way cheaper than Syd - Alice Springs or Uluru aand Perth from $3,822 or Broome $4,936 or Exmouth $6,222!!!

Sydney - Singapore return J is $4,295, Seoul, Hong Kong and Bangalore ($5,677 return J)

is there a thread where easy comparison of the domestic carriers is made?

I notice that apparently there is consideration being given to allowing QR to 'double' their flights to Australia. There has been speculation on several sites and it seems to be related to an Australian Financial Review article that I can't read as I am not a subscriber.

Yes
I scanned the Fin Review article

QR were advocating in the interests of trade between them and us we should avail them of more landing slots in the major capitals.

The so called regional airports continue to have surplus slots hence the QR ADL-MEL flights to take advantage of flying more frequently to Melbourne over and above the designated slots
