What I ate today - the food thread

Well, we do have spaghetti on toast... (or did, as it seems a bit old fashioned now). It could be an ingenious way to sell pasta as you can eat the lid, then go at the pasta then eat the bowl. Or if you don't have a fork, now you have a way to eat said spaghetti without a fork. I dunno... help...

Spice bar at Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge

Between piping hot and ready to eat warm, looks like they went for the latter. I'm guessing warming at the minimum temperature saves energy. No one needs to deal with a lawsuit for burning mouths (even if frivolous). They should probably have different pots on for different temperatures of...

What I ate today - the food thread

Yeah Swiss cheese (presumably Emmental) sushi is a no go. Maybe just another in a long line of cheese on anything because, well.... cheese. Asians (especially Chinese) have a fascination with cheese which Westerners find most unusual. The fact we have Swiss cheese here and not Kraft plastic or...

Dark Tonic Roasters https://maps.app.goo.gl/eJF2H3YFUkPNFW5J9?g_st=ac They also do a huge coffee, if that's your thing. I'm sure there's a few good places in the Chermside area which have great or excellent breakfasts. I can rate the Farmhouse in Kedron, if you can find a parking spot.

Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Gonna guess chicken and mushroom in a cream sauce. Frankly a classic (even an old school one) which warms up easily cassarole style there.

Uber drivers at CNS routinely cancelling rides to manipulate surge pricing

Same, found Didi as dead as a dodo. I keep getting a message basically saying the airport is a no go zone for Didi (so the rest of Cairns is OK...?) Uber, if it works and someone answers your call.

    What cheeses me off

Ah yes, the old school indulgent speaker. Of course, my prejudice could be way off. We rarely see oral presentations as a form of assessment in schools these days, and the few that remain appear to be a terrifying prospect to all of my students. Also happens to many academics who aren't used...

BNE Intl J lounge - pre security access only Apr - Sep

No mention of the route (landside) to the lounge. What happened to the lift? Granted, it is small and slow, so maybe not enough capacity? Or perhaps the lift egress runs into the work zone... I suppose if they didn't have another plan, there's not much that can be done. Not sure if...

What I ate today - the food thread

Breakfast the other morning. A small cafe in the suburbs (one of those created from a house that has been gutted out and remade to be a small restaurant). This was on the menu as, "salmon rosti". Potato rösti, two poached eggs, hollandaise, fresh baby apinach, beetroot pickle and smoked salmon...

United to remove passengers who use their phones and iPads on flights without headphones

I am also quite curious to see how this all pans out in practice. On the ground, alright, that seems easy enough, though it'll cost having to go back to the gate. Also, if the passenger simply gets put on the next flight for no charge, then so much for the "punishment". In the air, what...

What I ate today - the food thread

Interesting how they put the dust on the side like that. I suppose if they went straight on top, the porcini would be lost. A very Chinese preparation of lobster there. Hope it didn't break the bank!

    2026 Qantas Preflight Safety Video

I don't mind it at all. Yes, they took out all the flair. This is as straightforward as it gets since the old "Subtly" video series, but more natural (oddly enough) and flowing. Kinda oddly refreshing to see features of the cabin actually shown in... well, the cabin. The AI passengers are a...

QF Double Status Credits February 2026 Promo

Can relate. I only made one solid booking last night. I would have made some other ones, but the particular subsystem kicked itself and kept erroring out when I clicked to pay. The last booking I made, I hit the pay button at 2359 and I saw the confirmation page at 2359. But when I got my...

    2026 Qantas Preflight Safety Video

Interesting how safety demo video concepts come full circle in a way, though in a not so... subtle... way. Amazing would probably be on any of my playlists and I do like the song; would be very comfortable hearing it a few times a day. The melody itself is pretty cool but there's a bit of me...

Six million people a year would use train to Melbourne Airport

A bit O/T... My understanding is that the last stations of the IST airport (new one) metro line is closer or in the business district(s). But not great for tourists; it does take 2 or more changes to get from the terminus to the Blue Mosque / Hagia Sophia, for example. Connecting the lines...

    2026 Qantas Preflight Safety Video

I haven't seen it yet, but do they still: Forget to tell people to remove face coverings before putting the oxygen mask on? "There's a red tag and mouthpiece for inflation", rather than simply telling you what to do with those things? Is it a trend worldwide? I haven't really noticed it as...

    What cheeses me off

An important part of learning to drive is the rules of the road but it also includes a very important lesson: You may be right, but you can also be dead right. A lesson taught to me by my father many years ago during and after my driving formation and probationary years, it's the key reason why...

    Qantas domestic economy meals

Don't think most people usually have quiches for breakfast. Yes it has eggs, but something with eggs doesn't mean it's breakfast. The pumpkin would exclude it being eaten by a decent portion of AFF. I don't mind the combination of flavours myself. They did have a meat pie some time ago - some...

Six million people a year would use train to Melbourne Airport

Let's play a game: which city will get a proper airport to city centre rail link first: Melbourne (Tullamarine) Los Angeles Manila (NAIA or any of the two new airport sites) I'd add Western Sydney to that list too, but that's not fair - the WSI planners (I believe, or probably) got their...
