What I ate today - the food thread

Chilling out in Margaret River. Went to a nice tapas bar called morries on the main street. Aside from a nice range of not so straightforward tapas, they also have a decently sized compendium of not so straightforward coughtails (as well as a decent range of other alcohols, including wine, of...

Jetstar wants to fly to the Philippines

I wonder if it has anything to do with beating traffic or meeting early morning flights from MNL (and, if needing to transfer terminals, especially on an unprotected connection, beating traffic)

PSA: Going through border control witha D sticker can be a pain if you don't know what you're doing. I'm on the fence about Lallier. It's OK, it's not battery acid, but it doesn't set my world on fire. This dish needs no introduction. Looks good and tastes likewise. Strange flavour chicken...

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

I sent through my transfer to Qatar last night. Amex deducted the points last night immediately and clearly showed the 2:1 transfer rate, but I've yet to receive them in my Privilege Club account. I hope it doesn't get rejected and then I will be forced to transfer at the 3:1 rate (or not at all).

I just ordered that affogato. Generous serve with the two scoops. Let's see how this goes.

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

Same, except I sent mine to Qatar. I'm surprised that the linking of accounts to Amex can be very quick - I got scared when I saw the message, "It can take up to 48 hours to complete linking your account". Much of muchness - the Avios can be transferred back and forth at will. So now I have...

Spice bar at Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge

Spaghetti on toast used to be a thing during some breakfasts on my school camps. I think of it like some sort of b******* cousin of beans on toast.

    What cheeses me off

WCMO is a rather huge misconception about AI (Artificial Intelligence). Everyone is carrying on like it's absolutely new, as if AI has not existed before now, let alone in common use until now. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. What is new or rather emerging at the moment is Generative AI, and more...

I believe in old school American diners, serving the salad items on the side of the cheeseburger was a common thing to do. Part of it might have to do with people not liking those ingredients, part of it might be becuase it gave people control over how they wanted to eat them (i.e. take a...

Hey, at least you're in a pretty new terminal. :) (Or fairly new...) Hope the cafe prices aren't through the roof.

That's a lot of gins! At this rate, they should specifically make a provision to sample / taste them. And four kinds of vodka? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and there could be superior ones, but I've not seen four kinds of vodka on offer before. (I'm also not saying every good lounge in...

I guess that emphasises an interesting thing: in some countries or places where coffee is predominant and a source for the countries that have crafted a particular "culture" from coffee, the preparations of coffee can be quite simple and perhaps not that pleasant. I remember going for an...

    What cheeses me off

LOL well we all have vices :) honestly depends on how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go. For example, my mum does like her cappuccinos, but she'll easily get by with instant powdered coffee. I know it's hard (and even expensive) to get the same Australian coffees all over the world, so...

    What cheeses me off

Like the classic joke: "A coffee without milk please." "I'm sorry, we ran out of milk, but I can make you a coffee without cream." Don't know where you are in Europe, but most Europeans aren't aware of the range of coffees that we have, and most likely wouldn't make or offer them. Depending on...
