    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

For those early departures, I much prefer a refreshment service followed by a full lunch service (which now includes satay ex AUS!) to the alternative which would be a full breakfast service followed by a refreshment (porridge anyone?).

Article: The “Idiot Check” I Do Before Leaving Any Hotel Room

A small solar-recharged torch on the bedside table is your friend. Hopefully you get a brightly coloured one.

    Pullman Sydney Airport - Mascot

Can I just say that there are numerous excellent restaurants in the new Mascot area within short walking distance, including Sam Po Malaysian - excellent.

Grat TR, thanks. So many interesting sights in India. We need to add Jhansi, Gwalior etc to our list!

Southern India taste test - would that be hot, or extra hot?

Very interesting trip report and photos, thanks. Last visit to India, we did the golden triangle plus Varanasi, and half way through we had decided it would be our last visit, but by the end we decided we must come back for more! Tamil Nadu is on our list for next time. It's now easy to travel...

Southern India taste test - would that be hot, or extra hot?

Speaks volumes when you see India (and Thailand, which is where we were for Christmas, and many other non-majority-Christian countries)) openly celebrate Christmas, with "Merry Christmas" everywhere, but Qantas has to say "Happy Holidays." Not happy Jan.

India Diaries: Middle India, In Search of Nothing

Very interesting trip report, thanks. "Jhansi’s most famous heroine was Rani Lakshmibai" To others: For a very entertaining read including lots about Rani Lakshimibai, have a read of the Flashman Papers #5.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Seems a very long bow to draw. My theory about Qantas psychology is more on the money: they make their int J jounges at home ports so bad in comparison to their First lounges that pax are desperate to fly MORE with QF to qualify WP and access the Flounges.

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

If I could pick forex movements, I wouldn't be on here worrying about bank fees, trying to nickel and dime commercial airlines, and chasing reward seats.

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

Mac Bank transaction a/c. It even earns interest.

Things Virgin Australia Does & Doesn’t Do Well

Yeah, good point, I often take advantage of this also, depending on time of day.

Things Virgin Australia Does & Doesn’t Do Well

Yes, that is a very good summary and I agree on all points. Couple of extra notes: - priority security lane at SYD T2 is getting extended hours - business class meals are really good, and service and drinks are always great - internationally I mainly fly SQ, and the VA status benefits with SQ...

    Qantas A380 Slat Delamination

According to the article, that plane was the spare referred to in above posts - pressed into service pretty quickly on SYD-LAX - so it is now also out of service (in addition to the plane it replaced on SYD-LAX).

    Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge

So about the same standard as the old lounge. To be fair, it is a temp lounge.

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

I don't mind the 1 x SC per $12, it's the 50% on VA that is the driver for me. I mostly fly int, so have stuck to VA partners like SQ. But if I can no longer make WP, I may as well fly QF for domestic and take advantage of their great alliance partners for int (just needing to fly 4 x QF sectors...

Major Hilton tier changes coming - new Diamond Reserve tier, others downgraded

They'll just change the name on the door from "Executive Lounge" to "Premium Lounge" on most such lounges, and just say to Diamonds "no Executive Lounge at this property." Technically, they haven't devalued Diamond benefits. Problem solved (from Hilton's perspective).

Virgin Sydney Premium Entry Permanently Closing

Calm down. We know you hate VA. Sounds like a reasonable move. The new screening area is much quicker than it was and, if there is extended hours of a policed priority lane there, it's all good given it is also adjacent to the main lounge entry anyway.
