LHR T3 lounge crawl Saturday 6 June 2026

Booked on BA728 to VIE at 19:25. I notice it'll be qualifying for the Monaco F1 race at 3pm on the day. Hopefully there'll be a lounge showing it.

Cathay now also bans OW FF from pre-selecting seats

Cathay don't give the status benefits to other passengers in a booking if it's not Cathay status. So a OWS/LTG can choose their own seat for free, and have access to more seats, but other passengers without status on the booking don't get the benefit. A Cathay Gold member's free regular seat...

Airport security confiscated an empty water bottle

It's the capacity of the bottle/tube that matters, so filling a 1L bottle with 99mL isn't allowed. But empty should be fine. 110g of toothpaste is probably less than 100mL, but it would be nice if it was marked. I've bought empty toothpaste tubes that do have the volume marked. The one plastic...

Airport security confiscated an empty water bottle

They don't seem to do the gate LAGs check for Australian flights from HKG these days. Haven't seen it for well over 5 years. KUL is a bit of an odd place to do it given security is at the gate anyway. Now that I think of it, haven't had it done at HIR - does it only apply to flights meeting...

    Hong Kong Octopus Discussion

They are, with excellent rates/tiny spreads. But as @SYD says, may as well just use an ATM. If you had the HSBC Everyday Global card, that for sure would be fee free at HSBC/Hang Seng ATMs which are everywhere. They have heaps of Airport Express ticket machines at all AE stations now that take...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Qantas have now changed their page to say flights will be impacted between those times, rather than the airport being closed. I think they may have jumped the gun a bit initially. Cathay have now started cancelling flights.

    Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations

A waiver has been issued for change fees for flights departing 23 - 25 Sept: https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK/prepare-trip/travel-advisories/special-ticketing-guideline-for-tropical-storm-ragasa.html Currently looks like it will pass close to HK as a Super Typhoon the morning on 24th.

Qantas double status credits: Register & book between 12-18 March 2025

I flew in the morning on the 11th and still waiting for DSC to post. Glad to hear it's not just me. Strangely I had a CX flight post later than normal on a Thursday not Tuesday last week.

The Qantas Status Run Master Thread

If you're after something starting in Japan for a status run, try something like KIX-HKG-KHH-HKG-KIX on CX. 120k JPY in J return and earns 240SC. Just over 5 AUD per SC.

Maximising SC Earn on Partner Flights

Cathay put in a temporary schedule that has A330s has placeholders for whatever aircraft they'll actually end up flying. They'll fix it up closer to the date, but in the meantime it means availability can be a bit off. For example there's no PE available, even though some of the flights will...

Maximising SC Earn on Partner Flights

You could take a look at Cathay. Price looks to be about $4200, and should earn you 2 * (60 + 80) = 280SC. But I think they haven't fully loaded the flights yet, as the HKG-TYO flights are all showing as A330s (with no PE) and no connections through to HND from BNE. Probably worth waiting for...

BKK - SYD how screwed are we due to Jetstar dissapearing

Don't forget there's also EK for HKG-BKK, with first available on the A380. Pretty decent availability with classic rewards.

BKK - SYD how screwed are we due to Jetstar dissapearing

CX don't fly BKK-SIN anymore. It was axed back in March.

How long do BA, Finnair and Other oneworld flights take to credit to Qantas?

Cathay always credits Tuesday evening to QFF. Not sure about Tuesday flights, but definitely for everything from Wednesday to the day before. I've found it very reliable, don't think I've ever had to put in a claim, for dozens of flights in the last few years at least. I find Finnair flights...

Qantas Announces Enhancement to Seat Selection Fees

It's worth noting that the prices in the first post are in CAD, not AUD. I can't find any prices in AUD for tickets sold directly by QF, only prices for NDC/GDS. Can anyone else find them?

Qantas Announces Enhancement to Seat Selection Fees

I'd have thought it should be free with OWS too: From: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/travel-info/seat-selection/seat-selection-conditions.html The page could be more clearly worded though. It suggests Bronze gets free seat selection on any flight departing Australia if booked directly, but I...

NRT lounge crawl 8 June 2025

Heading back home to HK tomorrow morning from SYD, then on to HND after work on Thursday. No particular plans for Tokyo yet if anyone wants to meet up.

    CX Seat selection

I've never managed to get into the F seats as a QF WP - it seems to be a CX DM perk. I did have someone on a flight make a big fuss ("I'm friends with the CEO of Qantas and would have bought F if it was available!") and eventually get moved onboard. As for the mini-cabin, I would definitely...

NRT lounge crawl 8 June 2025

For anyone flying out on CX501 in J I notice in the last few weeks it's been changed to regional business class (ie. 2-2-2)
