Your experiences with QF delays and cancellations

Nothing - and no expectations behind the airline doing its best to get me on the next available flight. While I can understand the frustration and inconvenience, I don't see this as the fault of Qantas or deserving of compensation. But maybe I need to be tougher!

Emergency landing at Sydney as plane loses propeller

I suspect this one may have been published already - SMH had the story at 3.10pm - but if not, sit down before reading: Passenger plane's propeller shears off in mid-flight, forcing emergency landing at Sydney

    Bombardier dash 8

Yeah, I agree about the noise - really bad if you're sitting next to, or near, the prop! And whatever you do, don't let your +1 see the Canberra Times this morning (although regular flyers always expect a fair bit of bounce on the southerly approach during warmer months): ATSB finds hurt...

    Bombardier dash 8

I'm Canberra-based, so fly on them all the time. While my preference is for the jet (B737 or B717), the Crash-8s, I mean, Dash 8s, are fine. They can be a little bumpier from time-to-time, but as DT95WA says, they're solid and ultra-reliable, and as they often fly at lower altitudes, you get...

    bannisters @ mollymook

Yes, Cupit does a good lunch and tastings. If you're into bushwalking, Pigeon House is about 45 minutes drive away, and well worth it. A medium-hard climb (and you need a head for heights) but the views are incredible.

    bannisters @ mollymook

Nice one! Bannisters is great - you'll love it - but I find it a little isolated from the 'main' town, as much as Mollymook has one! (By main town, I mean the golf club and flagged beach area). However, it's terrific for lazing about with good books and good wine. Also very close (five minutes...

    I flew Qantas

I'm not trying to sound like a smart cough, but what were you expecting (assuming you were in Economy)? I know we should probably all expect a bit more but the reality is you're unlikely to find it. Get on, sit down and count the time to destination. Even as a long-term Gold/Plat flyer (10+...

    Worst Qantas lounges

What was the issue, Foreigner? I've spent a bit of time in OOL, and while not the best, it's certainly not the worst (a title held by SYD on any given Friday afternoon!).

    Premium Companion Sale (Oct '16)

Thanks jenib - valuable to know. I've missed the opportunity this time around, but hey, it least I have an excuse for 2018!

    Premium Companion Sale (Oct '16)

Are you able to 'break' QF11 with a stopover in LA? I've taken this flight four times now (I love it!), and always thought you had to go straight through to JFK?

    Premium Companion Sale (Oct '16)

Hi all - did anyone book anything in the recent companion sale? In a moment of indulgent impulse at lunchtime yesterday, I bought return SYD-JFK J-class for $5,499 (each). I know it's all relative, but seemed like a very good deal, and heck, if you're going to borrow money, there's never a...

Better chance of J-upgrade on weekend?

Hi friends, Hope this finds you well. Probably a bit of a very open-ended question, but just wondering if I'm more likely to be able to score a J-class points upgrades on a weekend - rather than weekday - QF flight between Sydney and Singapore? Many thanks!

    Ask The Pilot

Thanks Boris - I wish I had something more substantial to say than, "what a great answer"! I'm sure I speak for many others when I say how incredible it is to have someone with your knowledge and experience so readily available. Thanks again mate!

    Ask The Pilot

Thank you, JB - appreciate the response, and certainly agree with your comments about 'confidence' often being more a case of knowing when to say 'no', rather than 'sure, I can do this'. We were on a B717 going out of SYD. I wasn't much looking forward to the flight given I had trouble walking...

    Ask The Pilot

Boris - this might sound like a dumb question (sorry), but do all pilots have equal levels of confidence when it comes to the sort of weather we saw on the weekend? For example, would you ever find a pilot who was brave enough to admit she/he didn't have the experience required to feel confident...

    TomCat's Suite Adventure

I didn't mind BA's Club Europe (fancy name for J-class on European flights), but did find the lack of leg room a little surprising. This from Heathrow to Stockholm last year (on the 767): Food and booze (Pol Roger) was great, and agree with others that food in Japan is bloody brilliant. Much...

    Best Business Class Seats

Guangzhou to Melbourne? I thought that was on the A330, with the new Business Suite - see Qantas A330 No good?

    Best Business Class Seats

I have to say I'm still a big fan of the Qantas Skybed whether flying solo or with a partner. Even better if you can nab something in Row 14 on the 747 Upper Deck - I've been lucky enough to get it on a few occasions, and still can't believe how much space you get!

    Qantas Inbound lounge use

I don't recall Gold-level members ever having access to a lounge after flying, unless there's a dedicated arrivals lounge (such as that at Heathrow), although Platinum-level members can. See https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/flying/tier-benefitsOccasionally, I've been able to sweet talk my way...

    Shoes off for take-off/landing

Hey Skyring - just logged on to AFF (for the first time in many, many years) to see this post. Interestingly, you posted a very similar comment many years back (like 2005...!), and I've never forgotten the advice, for all of the reasons you note above!
