Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Very, very interesting. Must be as you said because you were flying on a freebie....

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Well, there's a cynical voice. I know lots of devoted couples, some married for over 40 years, one couple for over 50 years, and they wouldn't dream of NOT sitting together.... Myself, coming up 25 years, and my husband is my favourite travel companion: of course I want to sit next to him...

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Yes, but it will cost a motza won't it - let's face it we will never have the era of cheap mass travel ever again, so we have to take advantage of it now, don't we? Does anyone out there pay the extra for the carbon offset - sometimes I do pay, sometimes I don't - depends on my mood, and...

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

I am beginning to feel very low-caste as a "non-status" person, like a peasant really.:(

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Interesting story - and of course one cannot always do the on-line check-in - say if you are remote or no computer or no internet gadget? I find that you can usually arrange with people to swap seats if there is a good reason, I would do it to help someone. Once I suffered the intermittent...

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

If i had paid business class airfares, I would really be annoyed to have to pay extra for the seat I want!!!

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Yes, but we didn't know it wasn't compulsory, and my husband paid it not me. I would have checked it first.

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Aer Lingus, what a terrible name, but a good airline I think - I remember flying from somewhere in the west of Ireland to Birmingham in UK once with them. We had arrived in Ireland overnight from Halifax Nova Scotia, and a little Indian boy had kicked the back of my seat all night long, and his...

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Not a sweeping statement, peak oil has passed, and is a fact. And it wasn't "only $20", it was $20 per seat per sector, some of us have to work a few days to save $20 after expenses..... and travel is a treat looked forward to for many months, carefully budgeted.

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

But it adds up - it was $80 in the end for 2 people both ways. And we are loyal!!!

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Didn't Alan Joyce run Ryanair at one time? Jetting around Europe one wouldn't mind the no frills approach, the flights are short. Our flight was to Hawaii - international - 10 hours, and it cost quite a bit although it was economy; I suppose I think that a long flight should include seatback...

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Yes, I see all that now.... in the US a few years ago it was like that, I suppose we just copy them.

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

Ah, we have done lots of domestic travel in the last two years, but only the one overseas trip to Hawaii since the last round the world trip we did about 3 years ago; that explains it. I just have to be more aware and more vigilant. I don't have "status" but I think my husband does. I have to...

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

What about the cost of fuel - it will not last forever especially at the cheap price of today..... peak oil has already come and gone.

Why do we have to pay extra to Qantas to secure the ordinary seats we want?

I am now thinking it should be in the price as an optional extra? I will re-iterate here, I have never paid this before, I always book the seat I want when I book the ticket, or as soon as it is possible to do so. I just didn't know about it before.
