I could also see flights out of KUL for about ~$2500 (KUL>AUH>GVA; ATH>AUH>MEL). Same overall price if you combine it with your air asia flight but more direct. Then again, why fly direct when you can connect?

Re: No access to Cathay lounge in SF I had the same experience last week, was rejected from the CX lounge. The AF lounge sucked. I found Qantas began the boarding for the 2330 flight extremely early (maybe 2230?). I chose to sit on the plane rather than in the AF lounge.

I have a weird soft spot for MH (they were my first J flight) so fingers crossed this helps to get them back on track. Once they sort out their hard product, then they just need to revert to the old award chart :)

just be careful, sometimes the mobile app comes up with phantom or wrong availability - but as a place to start your search I agree its better than the website

most amex cards will transfer to CX. warehouse the points with amex - they wont expire that way.

I find there is a lot of variability in how helpful various operators can be. I would try calling again. I once called 4 times in a day before I got the answer I wanted!

this review annoyed me. Why do they include the QF first class lounge in the review? It's not part of the business offering, access was granted to the journalist simply as a media perk.
