Did that one last year. Go for the full day option from Stahan to Queenstown and back, and book the Wilderness carriage. I think it's closed until the New Year though, due to maintenance works.
In regard to the comments in the AFF article about EK award availability being way less than usual, and available at different times to normal, I think this will just be a function of the small number of planes they currently have in the air each day. Once the schedule gets back up to around...
The really irritating thing about this is that airlines are now quite happy to directly sell you extra points for around 4 cents each, which makes it close to a zero sum game for the customer, but they happily sell them to the supermarkets, hire car firms etc for less than half that.
In my experience, EK and QF awards prices haven't operated in synch in the past. For instance, in the time when there were 3 daily EK flights across the Tasman, you could purchase an F award to AKL using around 56K QF points, when it also cost 72K EK points. You have to remember that EK is a...
I couldn't agree more Alby, but it's symptomatic of the way Emirates seems to look at it's customers these days - the main aim seems to be to maximise your revenue per customer (the aim of any good business) while continually reducing the service provided (rank stupidity IMHO).
They do apply...
Yes, that is standard....but they make sure not to actively promote it within the upgrade offer. For me, it makes those type of upgrade offers a real rip-off
The old lounge could get a bit busy when there was one 380 and two 777's going out at night, so with the SIN flight upgrading from a 777 to a 380, they might be anticipating a further increase in lounge usage.
Most of the direct flights from DXB to SYD or MEL are close to full of paying passengers in J or F, so they only make D or Z bucket seats available in advance every now and then. IME you've got a much better chance of an earlier upgrade if you go via KUL, SIN or BKK in the 773
If you've been planning to buy economy saver tickets and then try and get an upgrade to Business using your Skywards miles, then the changes announced overnight by Emirates are going to leave you with a very sick feeling in your stomach...
Bazzi - with EK it will only tell you when you try to book via their website if a fare is NOT upgradeable. If it makes no mention of not being upgradable, then it is by definition upgradeable if/when D bucket seats are/become available.
I do the Mel-Akl run every few weeks. The bar gets much more lively on the return trip than it does on the journey over, so I'd try for that if I was you, but there's almost always spare seats in J going both ways.
I stand corrected Knasty - good pickup. I'd done one of these with NAB a year ago and they hadn't pulled this stunt, but it's clear that Citi are trying to be a bit too clever here.
I mainly fly EK internationally, and EF is absolutely brilliant with them - have never had anything less than 100% accuracy in real time, and as soon as I get a seat availability alert from them I've been able to book the seat on the EK website.
I'm a big fan of the J bar on an evening flight. It's usually VERY sociable, but if you want to get some sleep, try and get a seat no further back than the bulkhead at about row 22, as the noise from the bar is very noticeable in the area.
