Earning max Velocity SCs with Delta within USA

Yup, as above, all good advice. Here's how I see it. You take the following basic rules: Delta first class counts as "business" for Velocity SC earn Many first class flights in Delta are cheaper "Y-up" or "instant upgrade" types, which count for the full SCs; but there are caveats, so keep...

Virgin please go back to skool.............

Just had a peek at the source. The fonts seem to be DroidSans, or Arial, or sans-serif; in that order preference. Maybe it's a bug with Safari's ligatures in DroidSans? offer Offer OFFER flight Flight FLIGHT Edit: not sure if the forum software picked that up right, but it's supposed to be...

Virgin Australia’s free Wireless In-flight Entertainment system

Re: Virgin Australia streaming IFE Good idea and good intention; from a technical point of view there's no problem either. I'm guessing the issue is with licensing with the movie industry (and TV and music industries)...

    Priority Tagged luggage - Pfffffttttt

If you get a set of the Priority Baggage tags, keep 'em after your flight, and just re-attach them for yourself next time prior to check-in. A bit cheeky but you're entitled to it

What just happened to the pricing?

I think it may have been a sale... I was browsing through the "View Best Fares" pages a few nights ago, and I vaguely remember an "on sale until midnight 19th March" notice for some. If anyone has better memory than I do, please confirm/deny...

    UpgradeMe pricing and success

So, some "experimenting" with UpgradeMe Premium Bid... VA1207 CBR-BNE. Bid range was $150-350. Bid $150. Outcome: success! VA1226 BNE-CBR. Bid range was $150-350. Bid $150. Outcome: success! Both flights on E190, upgrading from Saver Light fares, with Velocity Gold membership. First flight had...

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Ah, gotcha. Saver and Saver Lite fares count as "Discount Economy", so I suspect you'd get 20+30 status credits one way. If you booked Flexi, that counts as "Full Fare Economy", so that's how you'd get 40+60 status credits one way.

Keep in mind, the double SC promotion is only for flights taken between 30 April and 25 June 2014. (Also only for domestic flights.)

What happened to boiled eggs for breakfast??

This morning at the Virgin Lounge Canberra: I ate one, it tasted pretty much like a boiled egg :D

What do I need to know about driving in the USA.

Be careful about scraping your tyres (ahem, tires) on the kerb (ahem, curb). Of course none of us ever do this in Australia ;) but when you're on the other side of the car, you can lose track of how far you can or can't get. Scraped rims are the least of your worries. We blew out a tyre...

Slow (/Non)Posting of VA Points / SC's since the SABRE switchover

Here's a good one. We flew VA8002 (codeshared with AirNZ, it was actually NZ102) SYD-AKL right after the changeover on 18th January 2013. (As previously mentioned.) By March, nothing had posted, so we filed a retro claim and got this: Checking my statement today, and the original flight had...

Suggestion for extra perk for Platinums - ongoing half point upgrades

Instead of making it cheaper in points for upgrades, they could make it so Platinum members earn points at a faster rate than anyone else. This would give the same effect... ...only they already do this? ;)

    A long shot...............Japan

A little bit more information on this. A lot of signs in Japan are in English... and as a result, although many Japanese aren't great at speaking English, they're more accustomed to reading it. So if you're talking to someone and they look confused, try writing your question on a piece of...

USA domestic connection - cheap Delta vs direct Virgin America

Ah, yes. Thanks for reminding me... When I talked about "first class (A)" above, that's technically a "Y-up" fare. I recommend searching for "Y-up" on this forum for more info, but basically it's a discount first fare with one huge disclaimer/drawback: if you miss your flight or otherwise have...

USA domestic connection - cheap Delta vs direct Virgin America

If you want to go Delta and do a "status run", I just had a look at their prices: US$548 in first class (A) from LAX to either O'Hare or Midway, connecting through Memphis, Minneapolis or Detroit. (Lots of choices of route.) In theory, this should get you 80 + 40 status credits per person. With...

Why won't PAX turn off their mobiles when instructed

Unfortunately, shielding has problems: it may itself interfere with flight systems, it's heavy and therefore expensive to have, you need to take your planes offline to have them refitted, etc. etc. The easiest and best technical solution is probably for telcos to detect people using...

    Status Run Spreadsheet access pre-requisites

As I mentioned in the Status Run thread: If VA were serious about identifying and shutting down the "unprofitable" flights, they don't need a spreadsheet. They need an IT graduate (or high-priced business analytics consultant...) with an hour's spare time. They can query their own flight...

I always figured, if VA wanted to know where the "good" status runs were, they didn't need our spreadsheet... they could just get one of their IT staff to query their own database!

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Ah good, someone found it. I'm not entirely sure that they'll honour it as it looks like a mistake. But more power to you if they do. If you have access, could you please add to the spreadsheet. (I don't.) Then you guys can start talking about it in code, and my conscience can be clear :)
