Best holiday recommendations for anniversary via qantas points

I have about 1.2 million frequent flyer points, but not much cash. Each year i take my wife somewhere for wedding anniversary for a few days around 19 Dec. So the last few years - Broome - hotel double-booked and so they bumped us UP to the cable beach resort. :) I was mid-breath complaining...

Qatar - the One World Emerald experience. 1.5 stars from me. Big fail.

Debatable. Other airlines simply value more highly than Qatar my $30-$40,000 flying budget over a year of economy flights rather than a handful of first class or business flights. EK not part of OW - yes, thanks, i've acknowledged that. As a qantas partner they are part of my platinum...

Qatar - the One World Emerald experience. 1.5 stars from me. Big fail.

Ok, a little research shows that Qatar appear to be at odds with OneWorld policy: 'According to oneworld, “members of oneworld airline frequent flyer programmes with the equivalent of oneworld Emerald or Sapphire tier status can use any lounge offered by any oneworld airline when departing on...

Qatar - the One World Emerald experience. 1.5 stars from me. Big fail.

Yes, it was on the booking, and they did notice it at check-in and at the lounge.

Qatar - the One World Emerald experience. 1.5 stars from me. Big fail.

I had flown with Qatar many times before as a no status flyer, and once as silver. Apart from poor connections and being dumped in the Doha warehouse for hours, I was impressed. So I was looking forward to the five star treatment as an (economy) emerald frequent flyer. Tbilisi, Doha, Melbourne...

Free upgrades might be the real difference between good airlines

I have colleagues who have status with Emirates, and on that point you aren't correct. They get upgrades about every 2-4 flights, same as I'm experiencing as a Qantas WP.

Free upgrades might be the real difference between good airlines

Since they have begun working together, comparing Qantas & Emirates, I find the service very similar - usually excellent. Lately I find Qantas onboard treatment perhaps slightly warmer than Emirates, but both very, very good. I also find both have first class lounges of the highest standard. I...

LAN Chile delayed luggage - what compensation?

Yes I take that on board about obligation. So as someone who crosses the pacific regularly, why would I choose LAN? Qantas get my loyalty because they earn it.

LAN Chile delayed luggage - what compensation?

Thanks for the responses. They are insisting there is no compensation if it's under 24 hours - even though in reality for me it's my second day. Saving money, LAN? Yet when a passenger like me wakes up next morning and has to wear the same clothes all their advertising and branding no longer...

LAN Chile delayed luggage - what compensation?

LAN chile failed to deliver my bags, but claim they should arrive late tonight or early tomorrow. As a OneWorld Emerald I asked what compensation I should get. He said nothing for the first 24 hours. I find that hard to believe. Can anyone clarify? Their site says: For international flights...

The aisle seat - is it really that good?

About two weeks ago on the last 14 hour leg of an exhausting 5 continents in 4 weeks itinerary that ended in Joberg, I couldn't upgrade any of my flights because they were all discount. I even wrote to Q customer service and asked if there was any special consideration, mentioning (cheekily)...

What compensation have you received for a delayed or cancelled QF flight?

Since I've been platinum I have to say I have never been disappointed with Qantas' response to a delay or inconvenience. It isn't always the same, I don't hang out expecting anything like a spoiled WP, so am usually delighted with the response. It has resulted in 2-3 nice holidays for my wife...

The aisle seat - is it really that good?

It varies from plane to plane. From memory on the 747 on Qantas it's under the arm near where it joins the seat. I think for passengers that need assistance it's necessary, so assume most planes will have it.

The aisle seat - is it really that good?

On long haul prefer the aisle because toilets are hard to access when someone's asleep. Also, there's usually a little button somewhere where you can lift the seat arm on the aisle seat - not well known. That's rather handy because when everyone is pinned to their seats during the meal service...

    Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Ay me! for aught that ever I could read, could ever hear by tale or history, the course of true love never did run smooth.:-| I flew, long haul, 50% of my life last year, wherever possible with Qantas, on NGO-budget cheapest seats I can manage. That's my world. Even if many of you fly far less...

What are your checkpoints for getting ready for a trip.

Most of SE Asia is FREEZING indoors. They put the aircon down to 15 or lower in my rooms in places like Bangkok or Manila. The meeting rooms are often the same. In frustration I once asked why. 'Because it's so hot outside.'

How do Qantas treat you as an elite?

As a WP (all from lots of discount economy - i work for an NGO) I appreciate many small thoughtful things done by Qantas, as well as the more obvious things: * Greeted by name when boarding * The special greeting on-board. I don't ever ask for anything special, but still appreciate that...

The classic fobbing off from ground staff - i'll be out of their hair once I board.

Re: The classic fobbing off from ground staff - i'll be out of their hair once I boar Totally agree. I often get great service at check-in. I guess that makes the contrast of the 'can't be bothered' more frustrating. You're never sure what you're going to get. You usually know who is...

Weary traveller or just silly mistakes

My friend from Toronto went to DC and arrived at the Dulles airport, had meetings all day, then went back to Dulles. "Umm... I'm sorry, madam, but your flight is at Reagan." "Really? But this is where I arrived." "No, that's not possible, both of your flights were through Reagan." Possible or...

Weary traveller or just silly mistakes

Wallet #1: I was in Zimbabwe, sitting next to an old lady waiting for my pickup to the airport. The driver came and we drove two blocks when he stopped. A security guard was waving us down. The old lady came up and handed me my wallet, which must have fallen out. Not a penny missing of the...
