Have been a Guest member (Gold) for many years and have some miles there. But after Etihad ruined their reputation by constantly cutting Guest benefits (less miles earned, more miles needed for reward flights, hefty fees per sector introduced, no limo, miles not credited promptly, no flybuys...

Had similar problem with Hertz few years ago in Vienna. Finished with the Hertz austria mamagement and ghot refund for "damage"charged.

If you flying at least once per year to Europe it is much cheaper to buy tickets in reverse direction. Typically a business class ticket MEL-EU(say CDG, FRA,MXP,...) costs around 7000AUD. If you buy in in reverse the price is around 4000 AUD (currently CDG-MEL flying Air India around 3500 AUD...

Have been flying with Etihad for many years now. Have Guest Gold Card. The miles used to be credited almost instantly but lately (since the Guest became a separate entity) one has to retroclaim on regular basis. Have complained but it is like sending it to a black hole. Any comments or similar...

My upgrade story is not funny and I do not have a Qantas girlfriend (MY bad luck...). But last year flying Etihad MEL-GVA I asked for upgrade to BUS. I was told that it is too expensive (few k$) but was offered blocked off 4 seats in the ECO for free. Said thank you very much. PIN:)

That's ok, I am not there for alcohol. EK are good - I am a member and their business class was very good. Yes, it is much cheaper to buy tickets "in reverse", EU-AUS. One can buy bus MPS-MEL on Etihad for under 4kAUD return. I just bought IST-MEL around Xmas one way bus for equv. 2100 AUD...

Royal Brunei are very good and allow BYO. But they do not fly SYD-FRA anymore, just PER/BNE-LHR. They business class is very good value for money. PIN

Agree, their economy is not much good but business is not so bad and if BYO then one can survive OK.

I have seen recently several airlines to offer mixed class airfares AUS-EU for around 5500 AUD. But if one buys a return economy from AUS to say KUL/BKK/DPS/etc. (flying Emirates for 850 AUD or Air Asia much cheaper, Jetstar...?) and then business class teturn from there to EU then the total...
