    Overseas trip #65

Currently sitting in a reasonable hotel in Nahkon Sawon, about 3 hours drive north of Bangkok. Actually it's most probably the only reasonable hotel in NS, but that's another story. Everything has a price, and even the dodgy hotels I frequent in Bangkok are a bargain. (I have no expense account...

    Jetstar 5% commission fee

This morning I was just about to book a SIN-BKK-SIN trip through Jetstar. I was all ready to push the buy button, when in addition to the the usual credit fee, there is now a 4.99% commission fee, being an extra $19. Does anyone happen to know what this "commission fee" is all about. My fare is...

    QF Multi city cheap Syd/Europe/Asia

FWIW, I have just booked QF flights as follows: SYD - MAD - FCO - SIN - SYD. All flights either Qantas (starting with QF1) or Emirates, depart late January and arrive home mid March. Total $1400 AUD. Pretty good value in my estimation.

    Checking chainsaw QF international

Has anyone checked in a brand new chainsaw from LAX to SYD in recent years? (I did this about 20 years ago, but times have changed.) I did contact QF dangerous goods & received a standard reply. I THINK it is ok to do so (as long as the engine is brand new, never fired up etc) but if anyone has...

    QF cheap fares SYD-LAX/DFW/JFK today

FWIW I have just purchased some cheap USA fares for early 2016. I think they're still online as at 3.40pm 23/10/15 on the QF website. I payed $1099 return for QF 11/12 and $1299 return for QF 7/8.

NAB Qantas Platinum card Insurance question

I have perused many threads on FFF concerning travel insurance et al. However, I have been reading through the NAB (Chubb) travel insurance PDS yesterday and it seems that although medical treatment liability is unlimited, they will only pay $100 per day if admitted to hospital, up to a...

Just back from Europe; a few random thoughts

Last Tuesday I returned from a month in Europe, plus a few days in Thailand. Here's a few rambling airline thoughts, if anyone is interested. QF: We flew QF all the way (QF1/2). The service was pretty good. In fact, I can't complain as the fare was cheap; the connections were perfect. We flew...

Heathrow question for this week's flights

A few quick questions: We are flying Sydney to Rome this Friday, SYD-LHR-FCO. The flights are all on the same QF booking. We have about 4 hours layover at LHR before we board the code shared flight (BA/QF) to Rome. I believe it involves a terminal change eg arriving T3 and departing T5. Do we...

    A spare day in Madrid

Hello folks. We're heading off to Europe next week for 5 weeks. (BTW, QF was far and away the cheapest option at the time I booked; we're flying QF1 to Rome via LHR, and back QF2 ZUR-LHR-BKK-SYD). Can anyone give a suggestion as to what to do in Madrid for maybe half a day eg we fly out at...

    European QF club canundrum

Hello folks. I have booked a month long trip to Europe, departing Sydney late February 2012. My missus and my 20yo daughter will be accompanying me. We'll be flying QF 1/2 with a stopover in BKK on the way home, and BA a few times. One of the two aforementioned ladies will be OK to accompany me...

    The problem with Qantas

This has most probably been visited many times, but is it topical at the moment. I returned last night from a 2-3 week journey overseas. I initially checked in with Qantas link at Coffs Harbour, as I am wont to do. Firstly, the staff member didn't give me a boarding pass. (He gave me...

Wish me luck on QF to LAX

Nothing spectacular here, just preparing for my very first A380 flight this Thursday (QF11) to US of A. This is my 15th trip to the States and this time, the missus accompanies me. Of course, an upgrade would be nice, but after leaving TN 20 years ago this month, I have yet to receive a J or F...

    Qantas Club budget cutbacks?

I don't know whether this is a common occurrence as I try and fly as little as possible these days, but checking in at SYD last month (enroute to AKL) was rather interesting. It was late Saturday morning, and there was only one QF club check in attendant for the whole of Sydney airport...

QF pursers and the English language

Is it just me or is it a problem? My last few international flights with Qantas were superintended by a purser (OK, flight services manager) who was almost impossible to understand in English. One was of Russian/Baltic origin, the other was Asian. I have a pretty good ear for foreign...

    Is this normal?

My daughter flew from Coffs Hbr to Sydney this afternoon. No problems, a little bumpy, she reported, but the forecast storms didn't seem to eventuate. The plane landed adjacent to T2, the passengers were offloaded but not allowed into the terminal. They then waited for 20 minutes in the (quite...

Woo hoo, first ever business class flight

This may be a seemingly pointless post, but I'll do it anyway. :) After 700+ QF flights over the last few decades, and having never flown anything other than economy (& premium economy once), I have booked a J class flight with Emirates, leaving this Wednesday (17/3/10), SYD-BKK. What are the...

    Qantas arrrrgh...

My daughter in law, her 4 month old baby and my 19yo daughter flew to Sydney yesterday to board QF flight to LAX. A late txt message from QF tells them flight is delayed by 6+ hours and pushed back to 9pm. USA connections all missed, though rebooked at a cost of almost $1000 AUD, plus a hotel...

    REX rip off

I booked flights tonight from Coffs Harbour through to Mt Gambier. I paid $136 for 2 Qantas flights from CFS to MEL, which was an excllent price. Then on to Regional Express to Mt Gambier. Their prices are always high for the kilometres flown, but you expect this from regional carriers who have...

    Frequent Flyer flight redemption?

I tried to book a flight from Sydney to Coffs Harbour today using points. There were many seats available. They were all Sydney - Melbourne - Brisbane - Coffs Harbour. 7 1/2 hours travel for what is normally a 55 minute flight (or 35 minutes on VB). Is Qantas serious? No sane person wants to...
