QF pursers and the English language

Is it just me or is it a problem?

My last few international flights with Qantas were superintended by a purser (OK, flight services manager) who was almost impossible to understand in English. One was of Russian/Baltic origin, the other was Asian.

I have a pretty good ear for foreign languages, have travelled fairly extensively and can generally make out what is being said, but for safety's sake the pax should be able to clearly understand at least some of what is coming over the intercom.

Am I being picky here or is there a problem with QF?

Never had any problems - virtually every CSM has been Australian.

I have only had the problems when they swallow the microphone, and thats not a problem that has been limited to CSM's.

Worst I can remember is one who kept calling Mexicana "Air Mexi-carn" on a SYD-LAX A380. The same again four days later, LAX-SYD with the same crew (guess nobody corrected him!)

No problems experienced here - might have a European accent from LHR to SIN, but perfectly understandable!

Cant say i have noticed any issues, im generally only doing SYD-LAX or SYD-SFO flights still..will add some Europe flights in next year.

I had an interesting German lady on my SIN-FRA last year, but was easily understandable. Was exciting in a way, as I'm used to all Australians (this was a QF flight to FRA) so it cemented into my head that I was going into the unknown

Will be interesting to see what kind of crew I get on SIN-FRA flying SQ in a month's time.

Nope Ozi, must be you! There are a few poms flying out of Heathrow who probably speak better english than you or I!

Can't say I've ever had this problem but on on a recent SIN-PER flight "Sven" seemed ever so pleased to repeat the safety briefing in fluent French.

It seems that it must be just a few isolated incidents.

Oh well, hopefully it won't be repeated for safety's sake as we are an English speaking airline from an English speaking country.
