    MEL taxi scam

I noted in MEL this week one was standing near the usual drivers who hold the phones out with the clients name on it but his sign had ‘TAXI’. And naturally as everyone walked past him he did the old ‘taxi taxi taxi’ nonsense. People fall for it as he was probably there for a minute when...

Air Asia drops Darwin, but starts Melbourne to Bali

I’d imagine they might be keen on WSI incentives, but they really need a NEO. QZ don’t have any at this time. I was told a while ago by a Jetstar Captain that A320/Non Sharklet can’t do east coast to Bali fully loaded with an interstate alternate. AirAsia have never been on my travel list so if...

Air Asia drops Darwin, but starts Melbourne to Bali

Started this week, interesting they are using a non Sharklet A320. I assume payload restricted, fully loaded with a ADL alternate, is rather tight.

Virgin Australia to lease more 737s

VUH I noted in Melbourne today all white.

No More International Lounge Access on Jetstar Flights (except QF codeshare/JQ business max)

Often those flights are charged at a premium also. I’ve seen some flights nearly double to triple compared to buying off JQ directly. Another thing the ACCC needs to pick up.

    Everyday Rewards Targeted Offers

The 56pk is on sale for $38. These dishwashing tablets are shocking for the high low pricing nonsense. Like the soft drink slabs which rotate week after week on promo. On off promo weeks for these sort of offers I’ve been given point boosters.

Virgin Australia Boeing 737 Max 8

Seems like they intend to run the fleet 25+ years. -700s they will simply hold until scrap. I’m fairly sure they said at the last analyst call they do still hold options up their sleeve which they can use later on.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

Those unhedged are in for a world of pain. SAS said in February last year that it was hedged on none of its fuel needs for the following 12 months after dropping rules that had required coverage on at least 40pc of consumption. It is not clear where the carrier’s hedging stands for the...

    Everyday Rewards Targeted Offers

I was told (by a friend who works at a competitor in ecommerce) that these sort of market platforms run off a 10% ish commission so I guess you can see why. Still check the general web for offers on the said item before buying though, I still often find better pricing elsewhere compared to...

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Going head to head with the low cost competitor outside of capitals who runs a high density configuration isn’t the best idea. They needed to hit up MCY-DPS before Jetstar did. Just like they held the monopoly on OOL-DPS for considerable time. Virgin needs to fight for more capital city to Bali...

The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

My Dad has around 4k points (won’t be earning points moving forward due age) just shy of the 5k transfer minimum, is a way around this for me to send 5k to him the send the 9k back to me?

Jetstar Boeing 787 refurbishment adding more Business Class seats

They are moving to a higher density premium cabin which does carry some risk on the commercial side, certainly could be some opportunities to get hold of some cheap upgrades. I was quite surprised they opted for such a high premium cabin, I’d expect a bit of trial and error on pricing/upgrades...

    Looming Jet Fuel Shortages?

It’s clear they are not going to end this until they get a cooperative regime with some trade offs. I think that’s going to be a multi month journey. No doubt some other strings are being pulled by some of Irans allies behind the scenes complicating things further. I think I would be...

Jetstar Boeing 787 refurbishment adding more Business Class seats

7News ran a story on this tonight. ‘Bid Cash’ is coming for Y upgrades. Looks like still perhaps a week or two away and yet to be repainted. Cabin looks now complete, looks like they still working underneath with parts off...

Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Virgin needs to do something with DPS the are losing market share to JQ. I think MCY-DPS was a missed opportunity. Outside of that Darwin, Hobart are a few options.

    JQ Starter Refunds

They give noting back and they circumnavigate the taxes bit by having a large admin fee. They might have a compassionate policy it’s a death or a family member. Perhaps ask on the chat .

    Looming Jet Fuel Shortages?

Fairly sure Geelong still produces Avgas. Doesn’t appear to be much though. Let’s see what happens with the oil price today, bit over an hour till open after the weekend pause .

Uber drivers at CNS routinely cancelling rides to manipulate surge pricing

It appears that Didi can do dropoffs but not pickups. The Airport needs a bus of some sort. I see the local MP is looking into that but who knows how long. The airport parking fees are not great for locals, at least Melbourne still has $14 per day. I see most walking down that long airport...

    JQ Price Beat Guarantee

I do miss the old old Tiger days with the price beat, especially when TT wasn’t that popular and they had nice low fares during most peak periods and days. Especially the old ‘taxes only’ fares they had on promos.
