VA flight misses SYD curfew, returns to HBA

Does curfew start at when the aircraft is cleared to land or when the gear touches the runway? I recall for departures as long as you request pushback by 22.59 you are safe. I’ve had that before, we pushed at 22.59 then sat for 10 minutes while the crew kept doing what they needed to do...

    Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

I wonder if we might see a delay to kickoff while airlines deal with cost hikes due to all these global events. Might not be the time to launch what is normally unprofitable operations initially.

    Qantas adds OOL-AKL and SYD-AKL-APW

Sounds about right. I know QF do 10-12 hour layovers across many of its overnights (especially on the Dash fleet) but I feel that these tight layovers are not great for the crew. Virgin seem to run off a longer layover multi trip policy.

    Qantas adds OOL-AKL and SYD-AKL-APW

Strange as the prior schedule allowed for what appears to be a 12hr crew layover. New schedule would leave crew with a multi day stay.

Virgin Australia Boeing 737 Max 8

Do they still keep the last row on Bali flights for crew rest?

19% unhedged it seems. Looks like Virgin is in a good spot. Qantas will certainly have the ability to pull higher revenue from International ops and they are actively chasing capacity in the coming months. Some details from the AFR just now.

Qantas to start flights from Darwin to Singapore

Having a look at AirAsia’s DRW-KUL, similar sort of rubbish loads. AUGUST: 35% SEPTEMBER: 42%

Are all seats chargable on VA domestic flights

Not sure if a glitch but the other week I checked in online 48 hours before and it let me pick any seat (Except X) for free. The seat seems to ‘stick’ once you select it. I then went back and changed it a few times without finalising the online checkin.

They are about 20% exposed going off results. You know very well they will do everything possible to prevent Management taking a hit to metrics on the bonus scorecard. They won’t be waving through hikes out of the kindness of ones heart. They think with personal gain in mind across any decision...

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

Most US Carriers don’t hedge, ouch! Lucky they have strong balance sheets to navigate this in the short term. For this current half, Virgin is 85% hedged and QF 80%. Bain Capital will be spewing as they had been so close to offloading most of Virgin, then this all started.

Crude $105! Here come the fuel surcharges! Now it’s $110. Fair to say we might hit that $150 by the weeks end.

Indonesia Air Asia returns to DRW

The Adelaide flights taking into account a 60min sign on and 30min sign off would have the shift as local time Indonesia 2245-1130am The Melbourne flight would be 2010-1155am It appears they are only running MEL-DPS 3 weekly in May.

Indonesia Air Asia returns to DRW

Same with Cairns Jetstar upped to a A321. Then pulled back to the A320 after they left. I think half the issue AirAsia has is with the stupid MOVE booking platform they offer. Back in the day they had a simple booking platform but now they have just made it too confusing. I’m fairly sure...

Crude soaring at the moment. I know VA and QF are largely hedged for this current FY, but the US carriers don’t hedge. I’d imagine QF and VA will start upping fares this coming week. VAs first real test under its new model and rising fuel.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

I think this is just a small blip, for the moment anyway. I’d say traffic will be impacted over the coming months as those who book 1-3 months out will likely push bookings to other hubs, especially the Asia and Australia to Europe. Pricing will probably drop and going onto peak, margin might...

SQ looks like it’s the most expensive out of all for the coming month. They seem to have bumped up pricing significantly and they will still sell every seat. Good Value still in some Chinese operators.
