    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with 28 January, A333 VH_QPI arrived in MEL at 0725 hours, 20 minutes early as QF80 overnight from NRT, but then formed the return flight QF79, the scheduled 0925 hours that did not take off until 1154. Arrival at gate tonight Japan time should be about 1930 hours, 110 late.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with Tuesday 27 January 2026, newbie flight QF65 (1330 hours PER-JNB, A332 VH-EVB) took off at 1647 hours so gate arrival should be about 2121 mid evening, 151 minutes late. I've not monitored every occasion this flight has operated but it's the first time I've seen a delay.

Any suggestions for travel insurance for a "Do Not Travel" area?

I can't help, but have been to General Santos once, and found it as safe as anywhere else. But it's from a very limited sample of one visit, and years ago. Surprising it's included in a 'do not travel' area. DFAT seems very conservative with such warnings. For years it insisted northeasten...

Was the extra cost for various menu items in US$ or A$?

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

The Sunday 25 January QF12 that was delayed overnight departed LAX at 1101 hours on Monday 26, with Tuesday 27 forecast for 2034 hours, 789 minutes late. So far, it doesn't seem any A380 QFi flights ex SYD today are delayed.

    Melbourne Passenger Capacity Issues

We don't have 'sidewalks' in Oz, they're called 'footpaths.' But your point is well made. It's the cigarette butts that get me: far worse at MEL outside arrivals than in Melbourne's CBD or many inner suburban shopping strips. Disgusting, despite smoking rates being down to 12 per cent in...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Weather conditions vary, but one keeps reading of massive snowstorms in much of eastern USA, so a tad surprising that the Sunday 25 QF7 only arrived DFW 85 late, so it managed to operate unlike on 24 and 26 January.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

This has been further put back to a proposed QF12 (D) pushback at 1045 hours in LAX on Monday 26 January at 1045 hours with Tuesday 27 arrival becoming 2050 hours. Will QF provide Mr Perry with a chartered long range private plane instead?

Upper age limits on travel insurance - family member illness/death

Southern Cross Travel Insurance (a NZ company but fairly well known in Oz) offers Seniors Travel Insurance for international if my reading of its pages is correct.

Why I find delays/cancellations threads tiresome

Absolutely fine to do that. Like you, I don't read every section of any blog. Thank you.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

A388 VH-OQK did not depart Sydney on Sunday 25 January, possibly due to it being unable to taxi before the SYD curfew. QF11 has been delayed until an expected pushback at 1345 hours on Monday 26 January, 1200 minutes late. This will also significant delay the Sunday evening scheduled QF12...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

In more on Sunday 25 January 2026, QF11, the 1745 hours SYD-LAX is expected to depart mid evening at 2100 hours. A388 VH-OQK has the task. B789 VH-ZNG is on QF22 from DFW for the long distance to MEL. Given the huge numbers of delays and cancellations there due to snowstorms, it's creditable...

    Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

On Sunday 25 January 2026, JQ64 from SGN to MEL arrived at gate at 1500 hours, 239 minutes late. B788 VH-VKF then formed JQ7, the 1310 hours MEL-SIN that is sometimes patronised by @dajop . It was airborne at 1654 so arrival tonight in the Lion City at a forecast 2110 hours will be 190...

Why I find delays/cancellations threads tiresome

You may not find them of use, @markis10 , but others may, because it can give travellers (once there is a reasonable sample) information as to how punctual and reliable (latter = cancellations) an airline is. For instance, UL is an airline that frequently runs late to and from Australia...

    Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations

Sunday 25 January 2025 sees both NZ125 from AKL to MEL (A321 ZK-NNF) and NZ215 from CHC to the same destination (ZK-NNB) due to supposedly arrive at 1818 hours, 38 minutes late for the former and 33 for the latter.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Possibly also due to the snowstorms sweeping over parts of the USA including Texas, the Sunday 26 January QF7 (A388 VH-OQL, the 1405 hours SYD-DFW) took off at 1633 meaning same day gate arrival is likely at 1410 hours, 100 minutes late. QF19 from SYD to MNL (see above) was eventually up up and...

Prague, Vienna, and a wild A380 late go-around

For my second visit I walked on Charles Bridge, Prague in late October 2025. It was far more crowded than what your picture shows despite my visit being in so-called 'shoulder season', so perhaps there is merit in travelling to Europe in winter, something I've only done once as I prefer autumn...

    Hong Kong Airlines Delays/ Cancellations

Sunday 25 January 2026 sees HX18, the lunchtime 1235 hours SYD-HKG (A333 B-LHR) not taking off until 1416, resulting in forecast gate arrival tonight of 2029 hours, 64 minutes behind schedule.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Updating posts above, QF79 from MEL to HKG was airborne at 1251 hours on Sunday 26 January so NRT arrival at gate for A333 VH-QPC should be about 2040 hours, an even three hours late. Sister -QPB is on QF61, the scheduled 0920 hours morning BNE-NRT in the sky at 1024 for mooted gate arrival...
