    Qantas Hobart departure policy

Why don't you become one of the stagglers? Problem solved, and you can enjoy more time in the lounge (yes I know!).

Article: How to Beat Budget Airlines at Their Own Seat Selection Game

I had an experience with easyJet a couple of years ago where, like you I didn't bother paying for a seat, as the flight was fairly short. I fully expected to receive a middle seat at the back, but instead it turned out to be 3C on a 320, I don't recall checking in all that late, but I was a...

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

My view is that it only takes one to hit something, either well aimed or just lucky. If that happened, I think most bets would be off for a while.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

This is very interesting. I have a EY ticket MNL-AUH-MXP for 24 March (returning a couple of weeks later), so I'm hoping that MNL stays off the list for at least another week, so I can get a full refund and get on with my life. Given what's going on in the ME, I now have no desire (or need)...

    Retirement Planning & Experiences

I fully understand what you are saying, but (as a centrelink pensioner, amongst other things), I've found the care in ACT hospitals to be not too bad. Not wonderful, but better than what you are describing.

    Qantas Hotels - Expedia

Sounds like the Sounds like they may be in the Philippines. I tend not to use Qantas hotels as I don't like to pay upfront. My preferred booking site is booking.com, although agoda is useful too, if you know how it works.

    Shanghai Layover 4.5 Hours

Yes, that was pretty much my experience. I did take the maglev, and I'd recoomend it if you have a few hours to kill.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

It'll only take one minor slip up (like an EK plane going down) and the whole shooting match will be off. I hope you can understand my colloquiums.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

Old, and maybe sensationalist news. But the Iranians do seem to have taken rather a dislike to Qatar, based on what seems to be happening.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

When I last looked at FR24 a couple of hours ago there was quite a lot of activity around DXB. including a couple of Aeroflot flights. Almost looked like business as usual. So what's actually happening and what we're being told don't really seem to gel.

    Retirement Planning & Experiences

The best retirement (non) planning is to have a partner who dies in service with the NSW Govt or a university (Unisuper). Ask me how I know. Personal experience, more than once. It's not something you'd wish on anyone, but it can set up the surviving partner for life.

So what traffic are you currently seeing in the Gulf of Hormuz?

United to remove passengers who use their phones and iPads on flights without headphones

All I can think of here is the treatment Dr Dao received. Be careful what you wish for with UA.

Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Yeah, I find the SYD FCL to be very hit and miss. Seems to depend on the quality of the latest recruits, who only seem to stay for a short while. I wonder why that is?

Air Tahiti Nui starting Sydney flights

I can't see it being a successfull venture (just my take). And yes, I have been to Papeete many times.

This is not going to resoved, full stop. Airlines may fly, but now with a little risk.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

You may or may not be right. But at least you know what you are doing. I truly hope my EY flight in 3 weeks is cancelled, so I can get on with my life. Note to self: avoid ME in future (similar to my note to avoid the Americas). I guess I'll be holidaying in Merimbula for a little while, then.
