Qantas to start flights from Darwin to Singapore

I'd be taking that JQ flight to DPS and buying an inexpensive business class fare from there to Europe. Would be cheaper than getting to SYD and back in business class, and even possibly Y at certain times of the year. 🤣 Well almost.

    Different ticket same PNR protection

Yeh, it will be HLO. Bags would indeed be complicated as it will be LHR-LIS-CMN with o/n layover in LIS. CMN can be challenging to get to if you take out ME3, and whilst AF was more convenient (with a protected 1 hr connection - I'd rather 1:10 at LHR in T2, than CDG). Also AF fare was...

    Different ticket same PNR protection

Thanks. Good to know, so if I proceed, AYOR. On my last trip on that SQ flight (SQ308) I was under no illusion that it was AYOR as it was a different PNR, different alliance, SQ->OT (to CMN), T2-T4 with 1:50 (but through checked luggage). Some would say crazy, but plan B was to re-ticket...

    Different ticket same PNR protection

Not sure if I'm suffering early onset senility or not. I'm sure I read in multiple places if you have two tickets in the same PNR you are protected, as long as you meet MCT. Or am I mistaken? I'm wanting a connection at LHR T2, SQ->TP that is 1:10, noting , MCT is 1:00 for T2-T2...

Qantas to start flights from Darwin to Singapore

Because DRW is such a small outbound market, and expensive, especially during the dry, the SIN-DRW and DRW-SIN origin/destination markets I imagine would be fairly small. What SQ can offer that QF can't is the world - Europe, North America, East Asia, SE Asia, India, South Africa. I can see...

    What cheeses me off

Combination of valuation increase and per unit increase? Our rates in Surf Coast in Vic actually decreased this year as property prices came off the boil after the covid induced boom (with a bit of a lag) council valuations decreased after a few hefty increases.

Wouldn’t necessarily read too much into that. Maybe it was the flight path due to the ME but prevailing weather could also be an explanation. . Did SIn to NYC and back during February, eastbound on both flights, going there was an hour early coming back 90 mins early. The flipside of this is...

Flying OneWorld around Europe [credit to QF]

It’s also worth noting we’re all different have different financial means, different tolerances and different standards. Some only every fly J so second class on trains or LCCs are out. Some have financial constraints (either direct or indirect - that’s they’d rather spend the money in other...

Flying OneWorld around Europe [credit to QF]

It really depends on needs .... the amount of travelling,, where that will be, and how much flexibility is needed. Two stand out countries are UK and Switzerland - some form of rail pass covering those countries can easily pay for itself. Especially if you want some flexibility to deal with...

Flying OneWorld around Europe [credit to QF]

Agree, lovely place. If coming from Zurich, depending on propensity to move hotels, could even stay there enroute, but the distances are not far so back and forth from Strasbourg is not difficult - it's only 30 mins.!

As well as Switzerland., Denmark, Norway. and others. Also In London, the Elizabeth Line (from Heathrow) , Gatwick Express and Stansted Express are included. I find the passes are really useful for meandering, flexible itineraries, or exploring from a central point. And for Switzerland...

Flying OneWorld around Europe [credit to QF]

Trains are certainly a viable alternative for Zurich to Luxembourg, and might even be worth stopping off half way at Strasbourg, really interesting place (about 2.5 hrs or so from both.) On the other hand LUX-Berlin looks like a more arduous trek ( and TBH the German rail system has been a bit...

Alternatives Ways To Come Home on Classic Awards from Europe to Melbourne Next Week.

I would normally agree but what are the data points on how efficiently and easily EK are getting people where they want to be in the cabin they want to be in given the numbers involved? We're not talking about a single plane going US or a few weather delays, we're talking about what 100+ (?)...

Alternatives Ways To Come Home on Classic Awards from Europe to Melbourne Next Week.

It’s really a matter of trial and error. I’d be looking at any BA/AA gateways in the US as starting points - but assuming would need to be comfortable with economy awards from US back to Australia.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

Well I guess the NZ PM would appreciate difficulties commercial aviation is facing better than many other PMs around the world. 🤣 Or perhaps more likely, the number of NZ'ers stranded there an order of magnitude smaller.

Also it could be a matter of finding a good point to exit Europe from. - for example Thai are selling seats from Stockholm to Sydney from Tuesday onwards for about $1200 AUD. .

The Increasing Pace of AI - What Concerns Me

There’s a guy on YT who asks AI to do certain things or solve certain problems. Not sure how legit these are but they are entertaining , like this latest one asking how to drink out of an upside down cup.

    Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

I think it is a requirement at SIN to do so. With a 75min layover plenty of time for it. Heck if at the right gate and towards the front if the plane and a fast walker, you could probably manage 20-30 mins in the lounge, if they'd let you in 🤣

United to remove passengers who use their phones and iPads on flights without headphones

On the flipside, it does allow people who have genuine mental health problems to fit in much better. If they are having a conversation with themselves or one of their other personalities, all they have to do now is wander around with some sort of pods in their ears. Once upon a time people...

United to remove passengers who use their phones and iPads on flights without headphones

A question though (not for planes, yet) but which is worse, hearing a whole conversation in a public space or someone talking very loudly and only hearing half the conversation (because they are using wireless headphones)? 🤣
