    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Sunday 11 January 2026, QF79, the 0925 hours MEL-NRT (A333 VH-QPE) is estimated to shortly depart 65 minutes late at 1030 hours. The 0930 hours SYD-JNB (QF63, A388 VH-OQK) is 'identical' in that its pushback should be at 1035, also 65 late. UPDATE: QF63 took off at 1120 hours with gate...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF7 on Saturday 10 January from SYD to DFW was changed again, being expected to depart at 2010. As at 2020, it hadn't become airborne. UPDATE: A388 VH-OQB took off at 2046 hours. FR24 claims arrival at gate becomes 2145, 555 minutes late. This seems a big overestimate. I've noticed recently...

Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

You have a choice of airlines to most major USA destinations. The mainland-based North American airlines are not perfect - they have their share of delays - but generally into and out of Oz cancel less often than QFi. Hawaiian and Fiji's airlines are other alternatives.

Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

Are these A380s being worked too intensively, as you opined above? We'd need a LAME or similar to answer.

Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

You may well be correct, but my mind was more focused how introducing JNB as an A380 has almost certainly increased the median utilisation per week or month of the QFi A380s. Hence, less available downtime for maintenance or repairs. Though many parts get replaced in line with manufacturer's...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Thanks. QF7 is further delayed: expected to depart SYD at 1845 AEDT. At 1730 AEDT the temperature at SYD (airport) was 41.4: by 1755 hours, it had dropped at Sydney's Observatory Hill (a different monitoring location) by 4.1 degrees.

Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

it would be facile to suggest the relatively small number of competitors who operate A380s don't have problems from time to time, but at least to and from Australia despite being thousands of kilometres from their bases, EK, OZ, QR and SQ with their A380s aren't nearly as unpunctual as QFi. I...

Also on Saturday 10 January, after arriving late as QF94 (see above), A388 VH-OQH as the 1200 'high noon' MEL-LAX QF93 took off at 1402 hours (much later than the unrealistic, hoped for 1245) with same day gate arrival probable at 0849 hours, 84 minutes behind schedule.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

It's got slightly worse: on Saturday 10 January 2026, QF12 (A388 VH-OQB) is expected to land in SYD at 1035 hours, so adding my usual arbitray five minutes for taxiing, gate arrival will be at 1040 hours, 195 minutes late. Friday 9's QF35 referred to above (A333 VH-QPF) took off from MEL at...

    Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

On a very hot Friday 9 January 2026 in Adelaide and Melbourne, VA682 (the 0745 hours PER-MEL that took off at 0802 hours, B738 VH-YWD) is diverting to ADL. Arrival at the latter should be at about 1355 hours, compared with MEL scheduled gate arrival at 1420. I don't know if this is a medical...

    United to Fly to Adelaide

A very poor use of public funds, especially when state governments are mired in increasing debt. These 'deals' are always shrouded in secrecy. What research do state governments do into how many passengers are inbound tourists or businessmen (in this case from USA and connecting airports)...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with Thursday 8 January, the 1200 'high noon' SYD-HND QF59 (A333 VH-QPE) was in the sky at 1310 so forecast arrival at 2034 this evening Japanese time will be 34 late. 'The 19' (1205 hours SYD up to MNL with -QPH) is worse, as it didn't take off until 1331 hours. A 51 minute late...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

In more on Thursday 8 January 2026, QF79, the 0925 hours MEL up to NRT (A333 VH-QPD) did not take off until 1041 so gate arrival should be 1933, 113 minutes late. This is the third consecutive day QF79 is badly late - not 'music' to Japanese ears given with transport such as trains they are such...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

A333 VH-QPF on Wednesday 7 January from HKG to SYD, the 1925 hours, did not take off until 0018 hours this morning so on Thursday 8, gate arrival should be about 1215 hours, 260 minutes late. A333 VH-OTS on QF296 from BKK to SYD is arriving at 0840 hours, 70 minutes late. Occasional service...

Continuing with Wednesday 7 January, QF27, the 1220 hours SYD across to SCL (B789 VH_ZNF) has only just taken off - at 1522 hours. Same day arrival is forecast at 1332 hours, 157 minutes late. This is likely to delay the 1315 hours QF28 from SCL back to SYD to at least 1515 in pushback: if...
