Yes we received an upgrade to J on MH MEL-KUL when I was QF gold. I was shocked and happy, given I wasn’t an MH elite and there were two of us. I assume it was an op up.
I like that theory, I also seem to have two tracking numbers. And yes I know the ROI on retaining P1 versus a set of pyjamas that’d be easily bettered by something from Kmart but it’s all about the status chase for me, in my last year of P1.
I feel sorry for FAs on the frontline, especially if their culture is associated with ‘the customer is always right.’

I’d add that for those of us with status, we might well be full after lounge hopping before the night flight and possibly less inclined to indulge in food onboard.
Don’t underestimate the power of aircraft and hotels in creating amnesia - never leave a passport, cable or phone in a pocket or drawer thinking I won’t forget that, it’s so important, or it’s only for a sec… Odds are you will forget.
