NRT lounge crawl 8 June 2025

Yeah I don't think there'd be any/much time to get into a Cathay lounge at HKG before they close for the night. Also no Airport Express at that time. I'll be getting a taxi to Central if anyone's headed that way. Oh and while it's an A330, it is at least the long haul business class seats, as...

NRT lounge crawl 8 June 2025

I'm Platinum now. Have book CX542 to HND on 5/6, and CX501 from NRT on 8/6. Will probably just stay somewhere in Tokyo for all 3 nights and head to the airport in the afternoon, depending on when others plan to be at NRT. EDIT: Also I'm QFF WP so can guest one person into the JL F lounge...

NRT lounge crawl 8 June 2025

Keen to join this (consider my Gold for the moment). If I do will be on the last CX service out. Just want to put out a feeler to check it's still happening given the QF flights will be at HND by then.

Need a new frequent flyer program

BA don't have the requirement for any BA flights under the new program. JAL are one of the better airlines for status earning in the new BA program - either 25% or 50% of the miles flown as new TP depending on whether Business Low (X, I) or Business Flexible (J, C, D). SYD to HND is 4837 miles...

HSBC Premier credit card - too good to be true?

I wouldn't expect much, the RMs are just sales people in my experience. They only contact me when they want to sell me something. They're invariably not very useful when I actually need something. Earning Premier in Australia is also a pretty bad deal, unless you happen to want a home loan with...

    The Japan Trusted Traveler Program

Picked up my card the other day, on departure from Haneda (landside). Had applied back in June, received preliminary approval at the end of July about 41 days later. Here's the location of the booth/office, in the distance with the green signs above it. It's all the way to the right on the...

No more secondary gate screening on Australia bound flights from certain airports?

It's facial recognition, not iris scanning. And yes, in places where there's the secondary liquids check, I've never noticed it to be thorough - seems like a total waste of time/money.

    Qantas Platinum Soft Landing

Jetstar also works. Jetstar Asia (3K) is a great way to get the 4 sectors cheaply without setting foot in Australia. Not to mention QF2. Or Jetstar Japan.

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

A domestic flight with a VA code won't earn anything towards status - Avios only. It's effectively the same as the way the EK partnership with QF works - can only earn QFF SC on a QF code, or a Oneworld marketed and operated flight, so no SC for an EK coded flight. This seems to be the same...

50/40 on our 40th in Taipei

Lovely trip report, and a few places I'll have to check out next time I'm there. Your flight will have arrived before the Terminal 1 enrollment counter opens, but assuming anyone reading this has an Australian passport, it's possible to register to use the e-gates for immigration. There's a...

multiple lounge use during a long stopover

Once you enter the departures area (ie. clear transit security rather than go through immigration), you would have to ask to be escorted out. I've heard of people doing it, but would recommend against it. I would just head straight into the city. Having said that, there are showers available on...

    Tearing around Taiwan

Can still be done. Is fast to register on arrival (As few countries are eligible), and would almost certainly end up being faster to register and use the e-gate than using a manual counter.

Article: The Best Programs for Earning Oneworld Status

I've seen this too, at ~T-100. Plenty of availability on various days for WP, but not for NB. For international in Y.

    Why can't MEL have a LAX-style walkway between T1/T3 and T2 airside?

Two reasons I can think of: * Different security screening requirements (ie. liquids allowed for domestic but not international) * International passengers have to pass through the border to leave the country if coming from a domestic terminal In short - there's nothing to be gained given...

Do the contents of the Business class Toiletry bags need to be in transparent bags for security?

I've never bothered repacking any liquids from amenity kits, and never had an issue. I also don't bother pulling things like small sanitiser bottles or covid test reagent tubes out, and never been pulled up on it. I think it's a case of better to ask forgiveness than permission. Let's face it...

    Hong Kong Octopus Discussion

If we're talking the normal MTR, no, in most cases the fare will be the same. Some concessions may not apply like early-bird fares and the fare-saver machines you see around a few places (that deduct $2 from your next ride). The MTR buses and light rail (in New Territories areas tourists don't...

    Hong Kong Octopus Discussion

You can use a Visa card (Mastercard coming later this year) for the MTR, and I think also buses and the trams. Bizarrely, you can't use them on the airport express (but can buy tickets for that with a credit card). Tip: If travelling with at least 1 other person, buy a "group" ticket from the...

    Qantas to resume Sapporo flights

It's been a while since Qantas have flown BNE-MNL which looks to be a route on that map. Haven't heard any mention of it coming back? Could be a good A321 route though.

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Keep in mind that Uber isn't legal in HK. It's commonly used, but against the law, and police do go after drivers. Would normally recommend catching the Airport Express to the closest station (Kowloon in this case) and catching a taxi from there. But it does require a bit of cash.
