Things Virgin Australia Does & Doesn’t Do Well

One thing VA definitely does better than QF is the lounge at OOL. I really don't know where to begin. For starters, there's a lovely view vs the dungeon. Next, the VA staff have an unforced smile, and then the VA food/drink is far superior. Try self-pour wine in the Qantas lounge (you won't get...

    Buying Velocity points

Yeah, I got a mixed case a few weeks ago and there's a couple of the wines that are literally undrinkable. Pity they don't give the wine away free with points purchase.

    QF Platinum Recognition on flights

That's very interesting and I can relate to it, sort of. My mother had a Central Europe surname (fairly unpronounceable), but my father had a good old Irish surname. It's also interesting, that my son and daughter both married people with common Irish surnames.

    Scams like these

I have never seen the point of PP, other than getting its owner (a well-connected Tech Bro) a heap of cash.

    Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

But who wants to go to St Marys if going to the city? It's a complete nonsense. Typical, build the airport and worry about access later. Zounds a bit like HS2

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

How about ING? Both my wife and I have it and it seems fine.

    Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

But to go.... Where? This is turning out to be a possible fiasco, along the lines of MEL.

Cannot add QF Frequent Flyer Number on Cathay's website

I don't think so. The CX app didn't recognise the QF No. you entered as being valid, so it defaulted to your CX No.

QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Maracay Airport, Escuela Mariscal Sucre (MYC/SVBS) But well done! Yes, but have you ever been successful in using them to upgrade to business. I haven't.

New aviation industry ombudsman & customer rights charter in Australia

Of course, only rich people fly, but poor people (ie voters) shop at Coles/Woolies.

    Condor considering joining Oneworld alliance

Yes, but they are a (pseudo) LCC, so anything goes.

Qantas Health Insurance - what are the thoughts of those that have it?

FWIW, and a little off topic, but I can't fault BUPA with their hospital insurance. My wife has had a couple of knee replacements this year (separate hospital admissions), and BUPA quite "happily" paid $50,000+ for the experience. Well, at least it didn't come out of our pockets...

New aviation industry ombudsman & customer rights charter in Australia

It's not something I would contemplate.

Cathay now also bans OW FF from pre-selecting seats

From experience, I believe that BA also requires the zeros.

Things Virgin Australia Does & Doesn’t Do Well

What's over engineered about it? A couple of lines of code. My 6 year old granddaughter could do it. But, I have to admit, it's a far better system than what VA are using atm.

    Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge

Yes, I'd do that in a heartbeat, as I do like the EK lounges, but unfortunately I think it will be well closed by the time I get to SYD.

UK rolling out Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

January 8, 2025 The UK Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for Australian citizens came into force on January 8, 2025. This requirement applies to all Australians planning to enter the UK for short stays, and the application process began on November 27, 2024

    Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge

Isn't access being restricted due to the reduced capacity. They might send me back to the FCL (oh horror). I like to have a drink or two before my 2:30 pm flight. and IME the FCL is quite puritanical with its pourings, and not to mention the attitude. I prefer the more Australian pub style of...

Jetstar NZ faulty baggage scales at WLG

Is that possible? Further, I'm sure that Jetstar's management views being worse than Ryanair as a badge of honour. Staff selection must be based on criteria relevant to their attitude to fit in with the Jetstar culture. Prospective prison warders would probably be quite suitable?

Spice bar at Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge

I do prefer the SYD lounge, but I have to say that the Spice Bar is streets ahead of any food offerings there.
