Eastern Europe Bucharest - Bratislava - Budapest

I think that's quite wise. If I was going to rent a car in mainland Europe again I'd do it too. But these days I don't rent a car in Europe (UK excepted, as I'm a British citizen with an (expired) British licence)., as the experience I had the last time has persuaded me to become an expert on...

Great prices from DPS - FRA on Emirates $4k r/t, $2.2k one way incl lounge

My limit for ex-SEA is AU$3000. No need to pay more for decent quality to Europe. I have a $2200 EY ticket in J MNL-MXP-FCO-CGK for April-May. And, from my perspective, the DPS airport is awful. Worse than MNL T3. As well, the VOA fee for the Philippines is a little lower, and English is widely...

Eastern Europe Bucharest - Bratislava - Budapest

That's true, but I would book Ryanair every time if there was also a Wizz option. Follow the rules with FR and you'll be fine (more often than not). Let's face it, FR is an Irish airline and Wizz is a Hungarian airline. You be the judge.

    QantasLink Airbus A220 Discussion

These are good questions. But from my experience, there's little in it for the average traveller, or, indeed, the business class traveller. So just cost saving. Given the choice I'll fly a 738 over a 223 anyday, in any class. And also the quality of the flight attendants.

Re SYD T2/T3, Sydney domestic airport, is it still walkable from either to Ibis budget/

Yes indeed, but what is there on Sarah St? Holiday Inn Express or perhaps the Fetchit pet store??

    Aussie passport cost increases again!

And the fun thing is that no one complains. Next time whack it up by 100%, and they will still be smiling. Can't blame the Govt.

Does MEL T2 still require LAGs to be in plastic bags?

Yes indeed, and I always take my laptop bag out from my carryon and have it scanned separately, wherever I am in the world. Even so, it goesn't always go well. Some places just need to find something. For example, LST recently, My carryon went through unscathed, but my laptop bag was pulled...

UA Refusal to recheck baggage over 4hrs on single PNR at certain ports

Fly with and trust UA at your own risk. I don't fly them, even as an MP LTP.

    2026 travel plans

Well, I have nothing planned for after May. I'm struggling to find any decent J airfares from Asia to Europe, but hopefully something will come up in the next few months. Things aint what they used to be, that's for sure.

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

Doesn't the Wise UK account have the option to earn interest. They keep trying to prod me into it.

Cairns short layover domestic to international

If it were me, I'd go for the longer layover (which you could spend in the Qantas Club I expect). All it would take is a delay with the incoming aircraft and you'd be in a spot of bother. Being protected on the connection is fine, as long as you're happy to take a flight day(s) later.

I'm stepping down from the AFF editor role

Very sad to see you go Matt. The place won't be the same without you. I hope that AFF can maintain its focus. And I expect you'll have a great time and be a source of inspiration to the global FF community.

    Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

That's an iteresting comment. The airport won't go far without them. cf Avalon.

Best Australian debit card for overseas cash withdrawals?

This is all much of a muchness really, when it comes to fee free debit cards. What are we talking about, a few cents here or there. I have UB, MacQ, ING, BankW, Wise (AU and UK) and Santander (UK), but at the end of the day you use whichever card suits you at the time.

Oman Air joins Oneworld in 2025

It won't be terribly competitive. Why would they bother?

Jetstar FlexPlus - plus being the operative word?

Scoot is pretty egregious with this too. A bit of a scam if you ask me.
