    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

You are correct. If you look at the number of points required to get to Europe in Business class on most of the common FF programmes (Qantas, Velocity, KrisFlyer etc) the points required is mostly in the mid-100,000's, give or take. So looked at from that perspective, the 180,000 points required...

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

Agree. I'd been thinking that I'd divide my points between Cathay and Qatar Avios, but in the end I just transferred everything to Cathay. My rationale is that Avios are much more readily available to purchase at a semi-reasonable price than Cathay points.

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

Ah, that makes sense. Standard Qatar redemptions from Australia to Europe in Business class cost 90,000 points each. They release, at most, two of these per flight and none (or at most, very few) during the European Summer peak period. Qatar also has "Flex" redemptions for double the points...

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

Very uncommon -- mind you, 4 x Business tickets are also rare as hen's teeth through Qatar redemptions and you somehow managed it. So never say never. But if I were looking for 4 Business redemptions on the same flight, Singapore Airlines would be my first port of call every day of the week.

In your position my "safe" option would be to keep your points where they are. Finding Business class seats for 4 people on the one flight is incredibly difficult at the best of times, but the airline which will give you the best chance of doing that is Singapore Airlines, whose transfer rates...

    Virgin goodbye for now

The real hope was that as the status earn changes kicked in, there would be fewer elite members and those that remained would be treated to better service. But so far I'm just not seeing that. The lounges are just as crowded and just as unpleasant during peak times, the food offerings are just...

Cruising from Bali to Irian Jaya and down to Cairns

Largest reptile on earth or largest lizard? I thought the saltwater croc was the largest reptile.

Credit Card Offers Amex Platinum Card Benefits, Offers & Discussion

AmEx has jumped on the bandwagon of Velocity, FlyBuys etc and sent a "Life Behind the Card video" supposedly summarising my last 12 months of AmEx spending. Personally I found it a waste of time apart from the statistic at the end telling me that I'm in the "top 43%" of AmEx Membership Rewards...

Have you flown to every destination in an airline's route network?

Have you flown every Jetconnect route to/from NZ?

What's your favourite big city destination?

To the above cities I'd add Paris: a great all-rounder with a little bit (well, a lot) of everything: food, culture, (urban) scenery, and a fun (if slightly intimidating) vibe.

    Virgin goodbye for now

I'd be interested in the wider issue; in fact I just thought about this a couple of days ago. How many disaffected Qantas customers have abandoned Qantas for Virgin, and stayed with Virgin? How many disaffected Virgin customers have abandoned Virgin for Qantas, and stayed with Qantas? My...

But, having signed up for one month for 30% off, does it not make sense to stay for 4 months to get the extra 5000 points?

Virgin Sydney Premium Entry Permanently Closing

Believe it or not, for the 75% of "loyal VA flyers" who don't live in Sydney these changes are positive. Even for those in Sydney it's arguable that these changes are neutral at worst, given the location of the new scanners and the increased hours of the priority screening lanes. As an aside...
