Absolutely, but moving the booking to another flight with no notification is garbage. It probably doesn't help that we are on separate bookings which I can't do anything about now, or that he is 16. We will be turning up regardless.

I don't know you, you might have been. The original link you posted had direct with airline for over $6500 and about $4100 with third parties, hence my warning. If that's an issue for you, just ignore it. It might help someone else who comes across this thread.
