    NAB acquires Citibank Australia

Yeah , they do look like GCs and soon will be earning not much more points either.

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

It’s strange. Aside from tax avoidance for smaller businesses, I do r quite get why they’d think cash is a ‘free’ payment method. There’s no such thing. You’re not paying merchant fees but what if the costs in devoting a staff member’s time to go to the bank to do the banking and the security...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

I think the whole thing about giving us metal coloured cards is to make us feel ‘special’ as well as getting a higher merchant fee as suddenly that’s a ‘premium’ card. If the banks are giving us rewards funded out of interchange, then their profit margin as well as costs like bad debts, etc...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

It’s one thing to ban surcharging, it’s another matter to reduce interchange to where it can’t fund reward programs which is why they’re going away.

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

My kids have an infrequent lemonade stall outside my house on hot Sundays. They use Square. Even that is 1.9% for Amex. If you’re charging 2.75%, you either can’t negotiate or taking the piss out of the public. I paid 3% on a US issued Visa the other night. There was no display of what the...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I think going to a branch is unfortunately the best way. I tried Sofi with my ITIN and they rejected me. Still send me promotional emails which I’ve now unsubscribed from. Applied for my CSP in branch at the same time as I opened my checking account. Got an initial letter asking for much the...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

I think that was sadly a foregone conclusion. The comment period is there to provide a veneer of ‘we gave you a chance to state your case’. I don’t think we’re going to get any less than the most draconian of outcomes. The party is sadly over :(

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I agree, looks like they all want us with ITIN to go into the branch. I also applied for CSP at the same time as I opened my Chase Checking account. Chase had asked for Many of the same things (via mail) like state ID that C1 asked for. They approved my CSP without further correspondence so...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

makes sense. Guess now there is the matter of my reduced income since last income disclosure when I applied for CIP.. Does Chase have the equivalent of a FR? I'd hate to have my CSP limit reduced as a result or it taken away for predominantly AU spend.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I haven’t had any luck with C1. Was thinking of trying again next time I’m in the US but if my long term use will be in AU, the risk is too high for a shut down. I’ll leave it alone. I was looking for a charge card that’s not Amex. I know the C1 VX Business is one. Are there any others I might...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I usually use Revolut for international money transfers (say from $A to $US for Amex payments. I don’t pay directly into my Amex Account but into HSBC using its account and souring number and then do a payment from Amex funded from HSBC.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I think this is the way it was when I looked at this some time ago. QF said I was only going to be able to buy those GCs with points but could buy the store specific cards with other payment methods.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

Just on the site now - I have some QF points so it's proposing I buy them with my points which is awful value. I want to buy them with my CC. How do you switch payment? I added more cards than I had points to pay for to my cart and it refused to take me to the checkout page. It did once I...

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I looked at QF marketplace to buy MC/Visa GCs now that the Coles offers have stopped but they said I could only buy those with points. Can I buy them with CC or do you guys use QF marketplace for other types of purchases?

I have Premier. What am I missing re the Elite? I’ve had a look again. There are plenty of cards with lower AF offering higher category bonuses eg in travel and dining.

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

I’m interested in C1 but keep failing at the ID stage. They specifically want US Government issued ID. They won’t countenance my AU passport even though I tell them in a resident Alien. How’ve you fared with this aspect?

    Strategy to obtain US Amex

The reduction of interchange (which funds our points) such that banks will have to cut the programs to shreds. Apparently, we won’t have the farce of surcharges so it’s political capital for the politicians … so that’s reform.
