    I'm over (most) lounges

It’s been a few years, but last time I was there with not-work there were some interesting lower-volume options too. Main terminal dunnies were less queuey & no dirtier. :) I kinda think, even as a not-so-frequent flyer, I do have a similar sentiment to @RooFlyer. My introduction to lounges...

    I'm over (most) lounges

Not always … as a very infrequent flyer, I can name two where it was better to flee the lounge … the QF lounge in Hobart, and whatever CI was using at Gatwick in 2018 (Plaza Premium Lounge I think it was). Of course as @kpc says, if you don’t have access then you don’t know what you’re not...

    What's your golden travel rule?

Given that they're mass-produced to meet a low price, I doubt they can be all that super-secure. I think they're a bit like a club-lock on a car, easy to get past & only used to hopefully make the thief target something that's even easier.

Would you fly at a less convenient time to get a nicer plane?

Pretty much. But when considering Melbourne, don’t forget how the devil makes those deals appear so appealing at the outset …

Would you fly at a less convenient time to get a nicer plane?

You’re discounting the fact that time is observed differently in hell, and even though your watch might say 3 minutes that time actually travels like 15-odd years of repeatedly listening to Nic Cage doing a solo radio-play production of Sense And Sensibility.

Would you fly at a less convenient time to get a nicer plane?

Something-something choosing to do anything via Melbourne to access a particular product-or-service sings really high praises for that product-or-service something-something-something!!

    What's your golden travel rule?

I can't normally do the "hand luggage only" thing ... my most recent trip OS was June in the UK from Brighton up to north of Inverness, I don't think I could've gotten by (short of spending every 3rd day of my holiday washing) without a range of summer & (Sydney-spec) winter clothes!

Would you fly at a less convenient time to get a nicer plane?

I guess a Dash-8 has a random number of rows & a random number of seats per row, who knows, the people building them obviously just hammered & glued random bits of aluminium together.

I don’t need to work-up that amount of sheer unbridled rage in other locations!!! 😅

The ‘plane is normally a very good indicator towards how the seats’ll be arranged. Occasionally you can cop a replacement aircraft & be stymied!

Would you fly at a less convenient time to get a nicer plane?

I have to say yes, but maybe for slightly different reasons than those who’re in the air all the time and know that pretty soon they’ll have sampled all the aircraft operated locally to their airport-of-origin … but as an example, I had us on Jetstar SYD-MEL-HBA and return instead of the quicker...

    What's your golden travel rule?

Ask someone locally where to eat … even if that’s the concierge & I’m in Italy so the answer was likely bought before I asked it, it’s still worked out with a MUCH greater success-rate than sussing it out myself.

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

It’s the same with anything really … those shootings in the Lindt shop in Sydney, suddenly half the population was an expert on how to stop armed criminals with hostages. Israel - everyone’s an expert. Even that Fischer-Price Titanic-viewing sub.

It’s not just Australia, look at who the Americans voted in as president in an election for which there’s only about a 33% chance of having been fraudulently won.

    Airfares to US to drop?

It makes one wonder whether or not the stuff I have to say around here about <the President> means I'm likely to be denied entry if I try, even though the person denying me entry is probably being disadvantaged by the aforementioned <person> ... ? A general AI search would likely turn this post...

    Airfares to US to drop?

    (a) Wow, MSN still exists, these a blast from the past! (b) I'm surprised 2.8% difference, up or (in this case) down, is outside the normal yearly variation just due to general randomness.

    Scams like these

I’d do the same. But … Telcos are all TERRIBLE for their customer service, should anything even slightly unusual happen. A mate of mine in the US spent 8hrs over the last couple of weeks on the ‘phone to Verizon renewing their service. I spent 3hrs on the ‘phone to Optus 6 months ago just...
