Airports absurdly close to the city

Was just about to post this too. My professor used a model with a light fixed to a toy plane to demonstrate the noise illumination and shadow zones (and the buildings affected by it). I recall seeing some pretty cool images of jumbos flying between the high rises.

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

There must be a lot of "+ deductable topping up" going on here. Assuming none and no tax on earnings and no fees, that 55yo would get to $2.015m according to the moneysmart calculator. The calculator tops out at $95k/per year for after tax contributions, but say $52k/yr (ie $1k/week), then...

Virgin Australia Pick Your Bonus Promo - Double Points or Status Credits - Ends 13 June 2025

Wait...why not? I'm also well and truly bamboozled. Or are you referring only to DSCs (noting the thread we're in)? I think we need a "How many status credits will I earn?" sticky.

Qantas Changes Acknowledgement of Country arrival Announcement

How are you so sure that QF made changes to the announcement in response to pressure from "them"? QF didn't flinch in the face of extreme criticism from "those people" during the Voice referendum, so why would they now? My guess is that the changes had nothing to do with "them" - so y'all...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Just seeking a sanity check on this if I may please. I'm looking at options for a family holiday to Vietnam from CBR. For it to be "VA marketed", must I book through the VA website? And if I book direct with SQ and credit to VA, SCs earned will count only towards the non-VA 400 of the 800...

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Booked CBR-MEL and MEL-CBR for the wife who pools to me. Both were Choice fares (ie matters only that they're not Lite fares) Costs were $169.00 and $279.99 respectively*. SCs expected: 14 ($169/12 = 13.08) and 24 ($279.99/12 = 23.33)** SCs received/pooled: 14 and 23 So NFI if VA are rounding...

    What cheeses me off

@Quickstatus at what point in your case did the insurance company own the car? As soon as they wrote it off or when they took it from where you moved it to? If the former, shouldn't they have been responsible for moving it from the freeway?

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

@Mattg so according to the VA FAQs, anyone who has a review date after 1 Oct, will have their status determined under the new rules regardless of when or how the SCs were earned? That really doesn't seem fair. It will capture many who think they've maintained their status because that's what...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

I would say yes. You should get a congratulatory email on the day you've requalified and the status would show in the app. EDIT: I thought I'd received such an email but I didn't. I was confusing it with a generic "your new Status experience awaits" email, which I didn't read and happened to...

Are the days of Points collecting over?

But this a thread about the value of points, not the value in credit cards and their benefits. Just about all Amexs offer more benefits than the annual fee. However, Amex points have been hugely devalued in terms of earn and burn. Without a business to earn points, and with 18 months between...

Gone in 5 days: My Award Travel Heist

This made me smile: "Pub chats in Birmingham – The disbelief on people’s faces when I said I was only there for 48 hours was worth it." When I worked in Basingstoke, Monday morning smoko was all about where I'd been on the weekend. Many couldn't comprehend that I'd driven to say, Leeds or...

Complimentary credit card travel insurances - Any adequate ones?

Rentalcover sounds like a reasonable deal. Amex Explorer doesn't exclude much and will cover repairs if you don't purchase waiver cover. It limits cover to cars (only, pretty much - eg not campers/motorhomes) less than $100k, 31 days hire or less, plus some other relatively obscure events (eg...

Virgin Australia Pick Your Bonus Promo - Double Points or Status Credits - Ends 13 June 2025

I'm way closer to FG than I thought I would be. 75% of the way there. Sadly I have only 4000 SCs from VA marketed and/or operated flights so would need 5000 SCs more. The 9000 SC qualifier is too high given VA's INT and DOM network. I'll end up getting 13000+ SCs to get the 12000 needed for FG.

They don't but they sell their own. Accordingly, I'm not overly perturbed that I didn't get it on my Explorer or wife's Vel Plat.

    What cheeses me off

I'm another who thought it odd and didn't know that an insurance company can cancel your rego, especially considering insurance over and above MAI/CTP collected as part of vehicle registration, is not mandatory. But most concerning is that if an insurance company cancels your rego, then your...

Complimentary credit card travel insurances - Any adequate ones?

You'll be covered for the first $5000 of the $5900 with your credit card policy which means that you'll have to pay the other $900. Should be easy to compare that with what you'll pay in premium and excess for the separate policy.
