First reward flight SYD-LHR. Are my expectations too high?

Perfect is the enemy of good. If you’ve already worked yourself up to this level of butthurt, over what should still be a very, very good flight experience, you’re setting yourself up for a dreadful trip. And you’re going to absolutely hate London on the “expectations vs reality” aspect.

Airline livery update - who needs one?

Alaskan Airlines has just revealed the new livery specific for the 787 fleet It is supposed to represent the Northern Lights and I have to say I like it a lot. The famous "smiling eskimo" livery will remain for other non 787 aircraft.

Booking a Multi City cash fare in Europe

Those would be better off as separate tickets. Trying to do the whole shebang as a complex multi city adds risk. If you miss one of the flights the whole itinerary gets cancelled. Multicity may also add some complex fare rules, married sectors etc. People think they won't ever miss a flight...

Easiest way to keep kids' QF points from expiring

Yeah that's pretty much how we used to do it, if the kids had low balances. But the minimum transfer threshold is lower these days, so no need to do the conga line thing.

Article: The Pros & Cons of Different Aircraft Types

Ok so there was other factors in play there. What I would say is that all else being equal the cabin altitude makes a big difference on long haul. These higher pressure cabins also have slightly higher humidity. The air quality is significantly better. Your eyes, nose and mouth don't get as...

Article: The Pros & Cons of Different Aircraft Types

Not enough emphasis is given to the benefits of the lower Cabin Altitude of more recent designs from the A380 onward, including the A350 and 787. These aircraft run a cabin altitude of 6000ft equivalent, as opposed to 8000ft of older designs like the 777 and A330. The better air pressure and...

Finally have EK F redemption in mind but still cannot book!

If the phone people can't book it either, then it's time to compromise. This is real "bird in the hand" stuff, and other travellers will snap up these seats if you don't. Consider booking separately with a decent layover as contingency. Whatever you do, don't prevaricate too long. Perfect is...

Women win right to sue Qatar airways

Go get em! In some ways, I would like to see the women win this in court rather than take a settlement. It would be a great step forward to have a court making a finding that there was a breach of the Montreal Convention. This would potentially have global ramifications. As per the appeal...
