AFF Review: Qantas A380 First Class (SYD-JNB)

I've commented a few times across the various threads here, especially the F menu one, but I agree that the food and wine service is what lets down QF F more than anything else. On most of the other premium airlines the food and beverage offering is what makes F so special. Krug or Cristal on...

Minimum connection time LHR after QF9 to BA flights

Airside is your best bet, and if the flight gods are on your side then 1:45 is plenty of time. I made a 1:25 connection from QF1 to a BA flight to FLR in July with enough time to get breakfast at the lounge in T5, but everything had to go perfectly. Booked separate tickets as it was tighter...

Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

I covered this a number of pages ago (it was from a trip in July) so I won't recap the full details, but essentially I was sitting in the lounge area opposite the escalators and felt like some lunch, so asked the attendant for both the regular and the specials menu. I was told that the specials...

Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Considering I've been rejected asking for these items as a pleb platinum despite actually flying First I'd suggest the answer is no.

    Qantas First Class menus

Friday 4th? I was in 5K. The beef that I enjoyed was on the LHR-SIN leg, on the way to SYD I had the same garoupa you had. I had the salt cod fritters as the starter on the first leg, nothing special but I didn't want a steak starter followed by steak main.

It had been loaded on QF1 on the way over (when I was joking with one of the staff about the non-existent Signature coughtail she went and grabbed the bottle of the negroni to show me). I don’t like negronis so didn’t try it.

Actually disagree on that one. Menu in the LHR lounge yesterday was pretty average. Squid isn’t ever as good there as the other lounges, the only other à la carte meat option was a curry chicken leg that was pretty unexciting. No red meat options. By contrast the steak with potatoes and sauce...

QF2 LHR - SIN. They’ve finally taken the non-existent signature coughtail off the printed menu.

    Qantas First Lounge in Singapore

First time transiting SIN in F as a P1 yesterday, had a host waiting for me in the aerobridge who walked me to the lounge. Asked if I had a preferred seat, I said no so she brought me to the magic green chair area. Offered to walk me back to security at boarding time but I went for a wander...

Your trout looks good, mine this afternoon was oil with a side of trout… still tasted great though!

Only the toothfish, which was quite tasty. Lamb tasting plate was disappointing, was mainly cold beetroot with a few slices of meat. The crab tortellini is a much better starter. Dessert affogato was excellent.

    Qantas Platinum One experiences?

2 months into my P1 membership and I've already received 2 event invites - one to the Socceroos in Canberra last month (which I accepted too late so missed out on the tickets) and last week to a Teddy Swims concert (which I can't make as I'll be overseas). It's a shame I haven't been able to...

Cash or Card? Countries where you still need cash.

My recent experience with the Sofitel on Denarau: Arrival 1: Free shuttle provided by the hotel Departure 1: Taxi organised by the hotel, $55 fare paid $60 in cash as I only had $20s Arrival 2: Grabbed a taxi who had just dropped off another passenger, agreed $30 fare Departure 2: Organised by...

Cash or Card? Countries where you still need cash.

Tuvalu is still 100% cash across the entire country. Very strange experience using cash again, especially for things like hotels, restaurants and even the government telecom office. They have their own currency but thankfully they’ve pegged it 1:1 with the AUD so the Aussie dollar is...

    Singapore Accor Recommendations

In the past in Singapore I've always stayed at Marina Bay Sands, but on our last trip we decided to do something different so went with Raffles and would highly recommend that as an Accor property if you want to indulge. The service is exceptional, as a diamond member we we were upgraded to...

    Tuvalu, land of the unexpected

Accomodation Finding a place to stay is the next challenge. Your options are the 'official' hotel (Funafuti Lagoon Hotel), lodges (Esfam, L's and Filamona are the most popular) or to stay on one of the outlier islands (like Talofa). All of the options are fairly basic by western standards...

    Tuvalu, land of the unexpected

I don't usually share trip reports as there's only so much that can be written about QF1 or the Sydney F Lounge, but I've just gotten back from somewhere very different so I thought I'd write it up in case anyone is looking for a unique tropical adventure. I found myself with the opportunity to...
