Me too, 8% net av return, and as I said in "growth" investment option, I used"Superguide" as my source, which states 10yr average as 9% on growth and "Performance is shown net of investment fees and tax, and before administration and adviser commissions. Our main differences are in indexation...

Sure, starting balance $1m In year 1 add $25500 ($30k before 15% tax) x 1.08 = $1107540. Repeat (+$25½, then x 1.08) 11 more times. Takes 12 years, obviously from any age, and for simplicity it doesn't account for the contribution may be spread over 12 months but conversely also doesn't account...

No in my example the top-up, depending upon how much one's SG might be, requires maybe an extra $10k pa (net) for 12 years.

I think many more people will be affected in retirement by the proposed changes, than they realise. Eg, a 55yo with $1m balance. Contributes $30k pa through SG + deductable topping up. Say, 8% av. return in growth/share option. Super balance will be>$3 by retirement age 67. Historical returns...

17! Very impressive planning irrespective of redemption or paid. And I suppose that's the point, you can get value but it requires a lot lot more planning.

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

Lost my credit card yesterday, 1st time in 50 years. It fell out of the phone wallet. Not really a "travel" mistake unless walking from a Brisbane train station to Uber counts, but relaying now my Macquarie bank app experience. Put temporary stop on card, quick and easy just a few taps. Short...

In today's AFR https://www.afr.com/wealth/tax/these-4-deductions-could-cut-your-tax-by-121-400-20250602-p5m48s Journalist states "Concessional super contributions. The first deduction which is open to people age 66 or under with less than $500,000 in their superannuation account, is the ability...

    LAX Metro now open.

"Connect from LAX/Metro Transit Center (Bus Bays 1 and 2) to all LAX terminals via a free, frequent shuttle." So similar to what you do when dropping off a hire car I presume.

    Where's the ham?

I commented about exactly this to the person behind the counter some months ago, was told that you can ask, however they said they didn't have any at that time. Since have forgotten about it, I've gone over to the dark side (qf) for next few months.

I like Henry's proposition "Pension mode should not be tax-free...". I'm old but I nevertheless think that tax should be based on income, not age. Yes we've all "paid our taxes" but that doesn't mean one is then entitled not to continue to equitably pay taxes, and reap the benefits like Medicare.

I knew someone who actually did buried tins back in the days when Australia had death tax. Dug it up after the husband died, water had got in (FNQ) and turned wads into into solid lumps. I suggest use of inert metal (Au)😁.

Yes not realised by many. Perhaps "to create a fairer and more sustainable system" super pension mode payments should be similarly taxed. Listen to the screaming then. Although really, it doesn't seem right that a single income family person on the average income pays a large amount of that in...

The PM stated the the tax will also apply to exMPs on their gov (DB)pension. I think that makes it clear that it will apply to pension balances too. "...calculation is adjusted for pension payments..." Oh yes (adjusted=added back in), surely you won't be able to have a $xx_xx unrealised capital...

    Virgin Australia IPO Discussion

I have a simple maxim... never buy private equity's "restructured" business. The capital has been taken out and replaced with debt (Myer), so the new "value" of the shares usually based on x recent profit which can be quite artificial (Dick Smith...supplier rebate is a profit 😆 without actually...
