Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

So is now (ie. before October 2025) a good time to do domestic business status runs, since now for eg. platinum, I need 400 SCs from VA? That's either one full priced J flight to EU (well because nobody seems to discount anymore), or a bunch of domestic business...

Velocity introduces Forever Gold lifetime status tier

I just noticed that the VAFF website changed - there used to be a way to see in which month how many status credits are expiring - now it's not possible? I don't suppose they will add a feature to check your progress towards this lifetime status... that'd be nice.

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

Found the thing going on in the US https://thepointsguy.com/protect-your-points/?utm_source=dailyupside&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2024 I suspect that will be us before too long as well.

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

Didn't something like this happen in USA lately, and a lot of points cards and good promos went away? I'm not entirely sure, if someone knows feel free to chime in. However in general, the value of points per transaction has declined a lot over time. I have only been earning points for the last...

    Multi city flights to Europe

I have done literally that itinerary (SYD -> AMS -> BCN -> SYD) in Feb/Mar of this year with Etihad. There is nothing special or complicated about it - just look out for airlines servicing both airports (there's a fair few), and you will know since they will only have 1 stop each way on the...

    Is QFi overextending itself?

They don't have to compensate cough. This year I had a QF to Jakarta cancelled last minute, I was up all night stressing about it and figuring out what to do, and had to eventually book a last-minute Garuda flight (luckily there was one that day). While I did get a refund, I did not get any...

    Is QFi overextending itself?

Well what a CEO wants is usually far from what the customer wants. We, the customers, want reliable services. CEOs want to maximise share price (ie. shareholder value). Where the problem comes is, Qantas loses out on some amount of business because of it's reliability issues - and this has...

    AFF Member Real Estate Discussion

I think you're investing in the wrong kind of equities. NVDA, TSMC, PLTR have gone up tremendously this year - around 100% average, for locals I got GMG, MCQ, RMD even QAN have all gone up around 30%. At the moment, with real incomes falling and GDP per capita recession, I highly doubt housing...

    Is QFi overextending itself?

I agree, especially on the 333s. These aircraft are very old and have frequent problems (and I mean frequent - just look at the flight history for any of those routes). This means it's a real big gamble to fly Qantas on these routes - especially since many people use those SEA ports as...

Any likelihood of Qantas returning to Frankfurt?

A lot of airlines (to be fair budget ones) are pulling out of Germany due to increased taxes on fights, I think it's somehow unlikely. I would be happy for round-the-year flights to CDG or AMS. BER would be great due to how central it is. I think the real 200IQ move would be flights to a new...

Boeing 777X now delayed until 2026

Apparently it's across the board. At the moment they are facing unprecedented strike action from one of their unions - I wouldn't be surprised if this layoffs announcement was strategically announced to coincide with that.

Boeing 777X now delayed until 2026

Boeing is circling the drain, only a matter of time until government bailout.

    Great Service for VA Platinum

I always say, I've had the best of experiences with EY in the air and on the ground as VA plat, and it would be really sad if anything happened to this partnership as a result of QR - I just highly doubt QR would provide the same level of treatment for VA pax. Anyway, this is a ripper of a...

What is up with Etihad's Australian operations?

100%, I hope they do double 787 on the days they have 2 flights and one 350 on the days they have one flight. It's time for the 777 to go elsewhere.

What is up with Etihad's Australian operations?

Seems like they are increasing flights to Sydney from 7 to 10 weekly from July - finally beginning to utilise their unused second slot. I wonder if that's possibly a response to the new government legislation about airlines slot-hoarding Sydney airport.... anyway, good news!

100% bonus Velocity points on QR flights, book by 20/10/2024

Come on VA, you can do better than this.... what a sorry excuse for a cookie-cutter copy-paste deal.

Crediting points and status from Etihad

That's fine, but I expect to fly to Europe at least 3 times before "mid-2025" - and I highly doubt they will remove Etihad until then at the least.

What is up with Etihad's Australian operations?

Sorry, didn't take a photo :( However I do recall a couple tasting delicious. For EY flights to Sydney, I think the most likely scenario might be switching to double 787-8 operations, which will come with newer seats, but yeh don't hold your breath.
