Timing QR release and other questions

Did this earlier this year with a VA rewards redemption on SQ. Was very straight forward. Called up once the we got the passport issued paid a small fee (was some weird amount like 37.4 AUD presumably airport taxes) and a ticket for the infant is issued to the existing booking reference. The lap...

Has SQ Stopped all MEL/SYD Business Awards from Velocity

No, for instance I spot checked dates in Feb 26. Previously even spot checking exact at 330 days when I couldn’t sleep after a big arvo coffee wouldn’t return any results, plus the overnight disappearance on seats from dates far and near suggest it’s not just a change in redemption pattern but...

Has SQ Stopped all MEL/SYD Business Awards from Velocity

Seems like that is indeed the case. Since a few days ago based on seats.aero you can now find J rewards availability on SYD/MEL to SIN and back. Below is the chart for MEL-SIN as an example, and spot checked a few dates on VA's website I can confirm the result as well. PER remains completely...

    Points/Bid/Platinum upgrade to/from Bali

If there’s available J seat unsold before departure what’s the order in which they are allocated? Presumably they’d first go towards cash bid first, but what about points upgrade? Does that sit in a separate bucket to the reward seat which the platinum upgrade also draw from?

    Points/Bid/Platinum upgrade to/from Bali

Think you are right. Definitely does not seem like VA ever releases J rewards seat on the AM Australia departures (which is the one I booked). You can usually find 1x on the PM one though. I was able to confirm the 2x upgrades on the way back on the overnight flight which is excellent. I only...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

You’d expect the announcement would come at the same times as the administrator announcing the purchase and formally start applying to the courts and creditor voting etc.

    Points/Bid/Platinum upgrade to/from Bali

Keen to hear whether VA ends up releasing more before departure for you

    Points/Bid/Platinum upgrade to/from Bali

hey AFF brain trust, looking at a trip to Bali for 2 next year and it looks like for the dates that work for me I can only secure 1x upgrade now based on business rewards availability on the way back so I’m considering to just lock this in now. Just wondering if the seats for remain unsold...

Virgin Australia changes to carry on baggage allowance effective 2 Feb 2026

Wait really? So an increase of 6 seat on a flight - a 3.5% increase in pax number is “considerable”? I also don’t think it’s a big deal with the economy X reduction. Even when I do fly ahead at the airport last minute, I usually have no issue getting myself an economy X seat on the exit row.

Has SQ Stopped all MEL/SYD Business Awards from Velocity

Late aug early sept it seems like. Not in front of a computer so can’t screenshot but the stats chart from seats.aero clearly shows an overnight disappearance on those routes.

Has SQ Stopped all MEL/SYD Business Awards from Velocity

This coincides with SQ pulling all J rewards inventory from MEL/SYD on Velocity. Really limits the option in where you can go with velocity points out of Australia.

Two month trial of Platinum Plus

Or priority access to business reward seat so I can stop fighting with mileage brokers and their bots and actually able to redeem my points for business class travel. That cost velocity 0 dollars to provide and is already what Qantas does.

Reduced Business Class on Partner Airlines

I have indeed noticed the reduced J rewards close to departure out of Australia for both NH and UA. Availability used to be plenty once you are a 1-2 weeks out from departure but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

    Virgin Australia flights to Doha

And that makes perfect sense. The harder it is to achieve status the more benefits status holder should get over a non-status traveler. One way to do that is to restrict certain benefits or access to status holders. it’s already hard for virgin to justify the spend requirement now, I doubt...

    Virgin Australia flights to Doha

The upgradeMe terms and conditions are pretty clear about that being the case. Not sure what those “operational reasons” are. Sounds like it could be reduced catering or crew based on inventory on T-2.

Free upgrade to Economy X (I stole someone's seat)

It’s a common trick that people traveling in pair sometimes use - block out the window and aisle and leave the middle seat empty. Middle seats tend to the be the last to fill so there’s a good chance they’d get the entire row to themselves. Worse case someone choose the middle seat they can...

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

Meanwhile on the premium end of town QF never had a divider since the 737 fleet entered service some 20 years ago so I’m genuinely curious - do premium Qantas flyer on the other forum here complain as much as we do on this side of the pond? I’d expect they complain at least 2x as loud based on...

    Virgin Australia flights to Doha

Regardless of cost, that potentially causes nightmare when you transfer at Doha. QR may or may not agree to tag you bag through to your next flight on a separate ticket, they most certainly won’t take care of recovery if there’s any disruption to one of your flight causing you to miss connection...

    Virgin Australia flights to Doha

Overall I think the chance is low even for PP. 1. VA doesn’t have POS in Ireland so you cannot book a one way originating there from VA. You’d need to book the VA flight as QR codeshare that means you loses the ability to waitlist for the upgrade with points on the VA leg from Doha as well. 2...

The lithium battery problem has hit Australia - fire on Domestic Flight

A recent EU research pointed to a figure of 0.244% across all EVs for thermal runaway type fire. Another research indicated that even after an impact, EV is less likely to catch fire than ICE, though if they do catch fire it’s much much harder to contain. that is all to say larger batteries...
