LHR departure experience as WP travelling in Y on QF. What a fail.

I am about to find out about the express lane for departure in a few days. I had no problems with the express immigration lane coming in a few days ago. The signage clearly states OWE & OWS. We just showed our cards and no problem :-)

What compensation have you received for a delayed or cancelled QF flight?

After a few horror stories, mine is a good one. A few years ago flying J LHR - SYD, the flight (A380) went tech and we were delayed leaving LHR by 6 hours. Doing the maths, it was obvious that we would be after the curfew for landing in SYD. In SIN, QF attendants greeted all F & J pax on the...

    Double SC

I had my first one ever about 2 years ago (10 yr QFF) and nothing since. Like the elusive OpUp, the DSC promo is a lottery. When you receive it, rejoice. When others do and you don't, be happy for them :-)

20 yr Qantas FF and NEVER been upgraded... are upgrades like Rainbow Unicorns??

A few years ago as SG I got an OpUp from Y to Y+ SYD-BKK and again BKK-LHR. The OpUp in SYD occurred in the lounge and they said "it's only to BKK, you probably won't get it BKK-LHR". After some time in the lounge at BKK, I went to the gate, the machine beeped and the gate agent said "We've...

how to get lucky at 35,000 feet

I think it's a bit off really. Even if there is chemistry between you and another on the flight, it's a bit like a night out at a bar. When you land and see the light of day do you really feel the same?

    Is WiFi D.O.A. aircraft technology?

When I travel internationally i rarely use gsm outside of the country I am in. In flight and on transfer between countries, i exclusively rely on wifi - much cheaper for me and my company. Most hotels in most countries of the world include wifi either for free or for a fee. In the not too...

US Immigration delays due Budget cuts

One thing people who are arriving at the congested points in the US (LAX, MIA, JFK specifically) is to look at the live flight arrivals info for the airport and the time and time zone you are arriving at, in advance, to get an idea of what you are in for. Check to see what else is arriving...

US Immigration delays due Budget cuts

You will be fine. There are no customs or immigration requirements to leave the USA. Just get to TBIT straight after you land (or stay where you are if you land and depart T4) and go through security. You should have around an hour to spare in TBIT assuming you land on time and your award...

US Immigration delays due Budget cuts

YUL is always a drag. It takes 2hrs+ no matter what time of day it is. So many booths and so little staff! Global Entry is always empty and I really wish the US & Aus Gov. would wort this reciprocal thing out. I do YUL around 20+ times per year and I'm starting to be a bit jack of it.

US Immigration delays due Budget cuts

Very good tip and one I use all the time. +1 is a Canadian Citizen. If they ever ask (which is once in 3 years), we just say we were guided to the line. To CBP person at the desk we are just another body of several hundred coming through.

What's the longest time you've spent in an Airport or Airport lounge

    - 8hrs in HKG in 2011. Visited every lounge possible, having a glass of each wine on offer at each lounge. Needless to say, i slept the whole flight to SYD. - 6hrs in SCL a few months ago. Can't remember which LAN lounge it was, the one with the sleeping room. It was just after the lounge...

US Immigration delays due Budget cuts

Actually I tried that drwebles and it didn't work out for me so good. I've spent the best part of the last 2 years in South America and the Global Entry website determined that I was a prime candidate for crossing the border on road via Mexico and wouldn't allow me any other classification...

US Immigration delays due Budget cuts

It's never good to attempt that short a connection at any of the major arrival points in the US. Some are better than others. I usually try for IAH or DFW early in the morning, they are usually really quick. I did IAH at 0500 in 20 mins last week! I have MIA at 1200 in two weeks and I am...

    British Airways PE

We will discover BA PE for the first time in a few weeks. We are flying YUL-LHR and seated 12 A/B bulkhead. IMHE QF and CX PE are the best product going, everything else is a poor second.

Front seats Cathay Pacific Premium Economy Not Available

I bought some CX PE seats a few weeks ago for travel in July and had no problem selecting front row PE seats for two travellers, all done online at the time of booking. We are both WP so maybe that was the difference?

AA system wide grounding initially blaming Sabre issues

Ah yep, this really sucked big ones. We were due to fly YYZ-MIA-BOG today. Currently sitting in the lounge at MIA waiting for the flight to BOG. Not a fun day, but it happens. Many hours spent in the MIA lounge..... What was unexpected is that our AA flight was in F and they put both of us...

    Lion Air crash in Bali?

A first serious look seems to show the transponder readings have the aircraft 171 feet higher than it's actual altitude. This thread will be an interesting one to follow for further updates: Accident: Lionair B738 at Denpasar on Apr 13th 2013, landed short of runway and came to stop in sea

Moving to The US - want to retain QFF Gold

I have this dilemma too, being based in continental America. It will be good for you to maintain the QF status in your future years as it will grant you domestic USA and US/CAN transborder lounge access (unlike any US status will). As has been suggested above, one return trip with a return Aus...
