Article: Why is Dynamic Currency Conversion Even Legal?

In Poland now and pretty much every machine seems to do it. Generally hasn’t been an issue, but one guy snuck an AUD push in. One this evening was very frustrating… it was an older machine so no touchscreen. Had the polish flag on the left and Aussie flag on the right. Common sense would say “1”...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

And those “subsidies” are funded by the people who pay tax in the cities. We’ll ignore the fact that the majority of that infrastructure is paid for by the end user anyway. If you want a government funded air service, you don’t get to complain about the standard. Having spent a lot of my life...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

That’s the problem. These routes aren’t sustainable without the government throwing money at it. We saw this with Moree when the locals were up in arms when QantasLink got the flick for brindabella who started running metros without bathrooms. Sorry folks, it’s not our job to subsidize your...

Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

If you can go straight to the passport office and suck up the priority fee, you’ll get it quickly. Mine was ready in less than 3 hours for my last renewal.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

If you fly in Europe, the annual fee pays for itself very quickly. I’ve just done a whole heap of sectors on TK, A3 and MS and not having to pay for bags (big saving), not having to line up, using lounges etc etc makes a huge difference.

Qantas Call Centre Long Wait Times

Wasn’t exactly positive… but I caught out so many lies that I wasn’t that interested in engaging too much.

Qantas Call Centre Long Wait Times

I did once get a callback. It was all very odd… Booked a oneworld award which went as expected. 10 hours on the phone and it was done. Spent 6 of those hours on the phone with the “supervisor” who lied her head off repeatedly. The callback was her 2 days later saying “I’ve reflected on my...

    Qantas Johannesburg Lounge

Just got back from JNB in First. Wouldn’t rush to the BA lounge early if you don’t need to. Dining room was at least private, but the food average. Pasta was inedible, burger fine but could have gotten one in the terminal for 100rand. Moet champagne was on offer. Got there at about 3. It was...

    VA50: all toilets inoperable

I think people forget how remote parts of Australia are. It’s not unusual for aircraft to fly “extended diversion” operations over continental Australia as there just aren’t suitable landing sites. In this instance, say the plane landed at Alice or Longreach (both suitable for a 73), nobody...

    What's your Uber experience?

This is an oddly standard Indian thing. One of my friends fathers proudly bought a new Accord 20 years ago. It’s still got the plastic wrap on the sun visors, door kick plates, stereo screen etc etc.

    Qantas Johannesburg Lounge

Legend, thanks. I might drop in for it then. Was just going to kill some time at the SAA museum in the morning

    What's your Uber experience?

Had the same issue in Paris. Nearly missed a flight. Took 45 minutes to get a car at about 7am

    Qantas Johannesburg Lounge

Has anyone used the BA F dining area recently? I’m in F on QF64 so deciding if it’s worth going an hour early for or not. Looks like the BA lounge opens at 2 now so works for the 18:45 departure this time of year.

Article: Qantas Considers Bringing Call Centres Back to Australia

Well… not really. You dared someone to state that people in the Philippines were dumber than equivalent Australians. You’ve now run off on a bizarre tangent. I’m unsure as to what you mean by “if you can’t say anything nice…”, so I’ll assume the point has gone over your head.

Article: Qantas Considers Bringing Call Centres Back to Australia

It’s not about stupidity. It’s about life experience, skills and training. We are generally calling these call centres for a service that is simply beyond the life experience of these people. They are unlikely to ever set foot outside the Philippines. You think they give a flying f about your...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yep I’ve been doing this flight for years. Hot turn inbound from Europe or South Africa and then head straight home. Quick unpack annd into bed - kills the jet lag. Only issue is that I find the main meal service to be too early in the flight. I’d prefer to nap and then have an early dinner...

Qantas Changes Acknowledgement of Country arrival Announcement

What would maybe make more sense is actually bringing a bit of culture into the announcements? SAA says Sawubona rather than “howzit”, NZ Kia Ora rather than “choice bro”. It’s an actual acknowledgement of their culture, rather than a condescending statement that foreigners wouldn’t understand...

ANZ makes it harder to access sign-up bonus points

TBH I’d have pushed a bit. Good chance they’d have caved when lodging an AFCA complaint.

Qantas boosts international capacity, wet lease Finnair aircraft

I believe the crew position on the HEL-BKK-HEL sectors, so it’s pretty unproductive to do just the one Australia trip. The sooner Qantas get this in house the better.
