Good to know, my inclination had been to go landside if I couldn’t transit. The overnighter is a bit of a killer (even in J both ways) but I didn’t want to do another DPS turnaround.

I can count on one hand ever seeing VA or QF measure bags at the gate using that metal thingy to enforce the dimensions. imo if your bag fits into the overhead bin, and you don't try to take the proverbial by bringing another big bag, you'll probably get away with it - and if you don't, accept...

I did a lot of J flights recently and found lots of industry fares, who were always served last. They’d get the tray, drinks and bread at the same time as revenue pax but would only be offered the choices (and there usually were ample choices left) at the end.

Curious what your plans are for the overnights in MEL and AKL. I ended up staying at the Ibis hotels in MEL, and had to go landside in AKL because it was too long before the flight back. During my status runs I didn’t get a single widebody, nor did I visit the SYD FLounge - really wanted to but...

I stayed at both Ibis Budget and Styles (in that order) recently. I'm a very deep sleeper and I did sleep there from 9pm-6am but I didn't pick up any noise. Styles was way way nicer, worth the slight premium.

I haven't tried the SYD version, did you rate it? I'd be happy for at least the MEL version to be a permanent fixture, there's only so many eggs benedict and corn fritters I can eat.

I had the congee in MEL and although it didn't look like much, I really enjoyed it - enough to get a second helping. I was going to have the dumplings again in MEL but on a follow-up visit was told it had already been taken off the menu!
