Slow Processing of Inbound PAX at SYD T1

You could be gazumped by another crew as well. They are entitled to priority over everyone in the crew lane, even if its a 'shared' lane. Some crews feel like a douche as well (fell its a bad look for the company) pushing in. Many use Smartgate too, which reduces the odds of gazumping.

And contains much the same information as on the chip, other than the photo.

Slow Processing of Inbound PAX at SYD T1

The international standards for (e)passports, require that they use at least Basic Access Control (BAC) or higher level of security. The relevant part of that to scanning the MRZ to use Smartgate is that the check digits contained in the MRZ are required and be correct to be able to read and...

Slow Processing of Inbound PAX at SYD T1

Main vendor under (or not delivering) stuff and lining up all the ducks from other agencies were the main causes. There was a much larger plan to replace/introduce a range of inter agency information transfer technology off the back of this project - some not traveller related, this tech...

Qantas Hotels - earning points on cancelled non refundable booking

Seems about right, you don't get points if you no show on a flight. Can't see why this would be different. Whether it's fair or not is a different question.

International to Domestic Connecting flight in Sydney Airport

The arrival time in November is closer to 0700 according to BA, so w one be amongst the first arrivals.

International to Domestic Connecting flight in Sydney Airport

Yes you do need to collect luggage at Sydney when clearing Customs and Immigration. 1.5 hours is quite optimistic, although I've rechecked baggage made it across to the domestic terminal in the early am in 45 minutes after getting off the plane. This would be very much the exception though. As...

Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

No, but the amount of points charged will be the rate for the highest class booked, even if it is only one flight out of many.

Do Australian Border Force officers deliberately provoke passengers?

While Quarantine is not Border Force, the term racial profiling gets used a lot for both. The were specific flights where certain nationalities would be selected particularly for quarantine checks. An example was (maybe still so) Hong Kong Chinese around the time of year the delicacy 'birds...

Do Australian Border Force officers deliberately provoke passengers?

As a former Customs (aka Border Force) officer who worked at Sydney for awhile , the answer is no for nearly all of the staff. The remaining could be quite embarrassing at times, especially when the target is from a non English speaking background. And every large workplace has its 'problem...

Op-ed: Airlines Must Take the Seatbelt Sign More Seriously

I don't think the FAA (in reference to AA) mandates shades up for take off and landings for US carriers unless the airline has it in their standard procedures. Then they would get into trouble for not following their procedures.

    Qantas Sydney airport terminal transfer

I imagine you could do online check in and drop the bags off at the transfer building, where the qantas domestic shuttle leaves from.

Short turnarounds: Have you flown back from your destination with the same crew?

Several years ago, QR operated DOH - YUL less than daily, so the crew on my inbound flight were operating my outbound flight 72 hours later. The cabin supervisor and I were talking about what we respectively be doing in that time. We greeted each other like old friends when I boarded the flight...

New TRS rules? Goods no longer included in cap?

The dollar value of the passenger concession has never been adjusted with inflation, only when the government, both political and administrative wings, think it needs to be done. Not saying it shouldn't be adjusted in that fashion just that there is no precedent. It is probably a tad harder...

Qatar "P" Class - It pays to check when booking flights

I was just going off the oneworld lounge access website, where for SIN it states for QR revenue pax only from other oneworld carriers. Yet on the lounge access policy page of the same site it does not make mention of revenue pax only for access. Take your pick.

Qatar "P" Class - It pays to check when booking flights

Indeed, and QR at least must be able to tell the difference between revenue and award pax from scanning the QR ( not the airline) code on boarding passes as OW award pax in J class are not permitted in some of their lounges.

Qatar "P" Class - It pays to check when booking flights

I'm not sure how unbundled my AY fare was, baggage allowance was 1 X 23 and no seat selection unless OW status applied. From a vague memory it wasn't the 'bottom of the rung' fare, but the next one up.

Qatar "P" Class - It pays to check when booking flights

A revenue fare in business class on a OW carrier gets you access to QR lounge in Singapore. My experience a fortnight ago, travelling on AY ticket on QF2.

    Finnair’s Business Class AirLounge seat

I recently flew BKK-HEL and HEL-SIN in 2L on A350, very little disturbance from galley, it is relatively not that close to the galley and not a lot of bother with loo traffic.
