    Lounge to myself

I had the Reykjavic (KEF) Saga lounge to myself for a while and only one other passenger turned up at peak hour. I had the entire SAS Business Class on the plane to myself too (one row of J). The lounge was actually a fair size - just empty. I have been the first person at the SQ J lounge in...

Travel Insurance through credit card provider

I did the Kokoda Track using my CBA (Zurich) AMEX travel insurance. In researching before the trip I read the policy line by line VERY carefully, rang the Zurich call centre and asked lots of questions and declared my type of cover to the trekking company (which rightly so insisted upon travel...

    Suites savers now available

Today I booked Saver Awards Suites HKG - SIN - SYD. At seat allocation I was the only allocated seat HKG - SIN and the second allocated seat on SIN-SYD. Now I notice that on both flights both Saver and Standard are recorded as Waitlist. But maybe somebody else has booked seats as well (unlikely...

    Suites savers now available

I tried the same line last night with my +1. It worked! So for my next trip I'm about to book suite savers HKG - SIN - SYD. So my choices are: HKG - SIN : New First Class (777-300ER) or Suites (A380)? and SIN - SYD : the flight that leaves after midnight will give me 5 hours in Changi...

    Singapore airport

You can walk (it's all inside the terminal complex, no need to go outside), if you would like to stretch your legs or the SkyTrain is quick, free and very easy. You will have no problems at all.

    SIN Hilton

Good choice. I stayed there a few months back. As Gold I got an upgrade but not to the executive floor. The service was brilliant, room spacious and well appointed and the location is right up there. It costs more, but for a special occasion is worth it (IMHO). Enjoy!

KrisFlyer Gold and VA Lounge Access

I seem to flip flop between SQ Silver and Gold levels but I've just made Gold again. Next week I am travelling VA from Port Moresby to Sydney via Brisbane and I presume my new Gold card wont have arrived by then. Can anybody confirm I'll have access to a lounge at POM? and at POM and BNE what...

Virgin Australia Domestic Y. Airline A+ Passengers Z- (No photos)

I didn't check in online (and choose my seat) because I was hoping to change to an earlier flight. I thought that might have been easier if I presented at the lounge without an existing boarding pass. I was wrong. I have my seating preferences registered with VA under my Velocity profile, but...

Of course! How could I get this wrong? Well spotted and please take a wafer thin mint from petty cash for your efforts. I've amended the original post.

Virgin Australia Domestic Y. Airline A+ Passengers Z- (No photos)

I tend to prefer Virgin Australia over Qantas. I find their customer service better and their on-time record just as good if not better. They've come a long way especially since a change in CEO a few years back. This is a bit of a summary of my VA experiences over the last few months and today's...

How do you visibly identify your nationality when travelling overseas?

I try to blend in but at 6'4" Europeans spot me for a tourist a mile away - even without the backpack and camera. For a while I would wear a very small discrete Kangaroo pin. You can pick them up in Australian tourist stores for next to nothing. Then if somebody helped me when overseas I would...

Trip Report: MUC - FLR on Air Dolomiti's business class

Thanks Matty. I'll keep both FF numbers handy at check-in just in case. From BGY - FRA they had roughly 8am, noon and 6pm options but on my day of travel they cancelled the noon flight which was a bit of a hassle given we rely upon family driving us to the airport (making the morning flight...

Trip Report: MUC - FLR on Air Dolomiti's business class

Thanks for the TR. Next month I'm flying Air Dolomiti from Milano Bergamo to Frankfurt and this made me feel a bit better about the airline. There were originally three flights scheduled for the day I'm travelling and they cancelled the middle of the day (and only convenient for me) flight...

Best Price for Brisbane-London return in Business Class?

I'm not sure you can put a salary on it as everybody has different values and priorities. For me, I'm 6'4" and I've never paid between $10 - 14K for my tickets. I travel to Europe on average once a year since 2000 and my average fare cost would be in the low $6000s. So let's say that's an extra...
