Spot on. Pre-Covid experience flying over from MEL-DPS was absolutely delightful. Sadly, not the same on the return given seats for overnight and the catering.

Your experience sounds very disappointing indeed. Some of what you've listed is well-known (e.g. no lounge access in DPS) but some is not great at all (poor gate communication, no PDB, no spirits, warm beer etc.). My J flight from DPS-MEL back in 2018 would be probably my worst VA experience...

I've had a couple of good experiences with EY as a VA Gold travelling to Europe. And two of us are booked as VA Platinum travelling over in December. At the time we were searching a few months back, EY had the best availability for VA - was very little on QR or SQ. Would be sad to see them end...

I've been into the RLA one in Melbourne back in February 2023. All paid F&B, however nice to have somewhere comfortable to sit rather than just hang around in the seat before the gig or in the overflowing concourse. Staff were very friendly too.

At this late stage and with the demand out there for business reward seats, it's a case of simply regularly checking (or setting up an alert on a site like expert flyer) and seeing if something becomes available. Individual legs can be done.

Agreed. Recently tried my luck at the lounge for OOL-MEL on a Choice fare with 3 x vacant J seats, but only offered a points upgrade

The A330s had a coffee machine for 'The Business' so you could have a 'proper' coffee. 738s just have the brewed/filter coffee.
