    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

Running up debt now is asking our children and grandchildren to pay for us. That's why I think the affluent over 60s need to be paying more now. You can be 3 decades in retirement and contribute little except GST. The bank of mum amd dad for property and large inheritances from big super...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

I dont know the family K finances but it doesnt sound like you are in the group I feel are getting too cushy a deal. Money in super is tied up for a long time, and the overall principle helps the nation enormously. So there should be some tax benefits. But I personally feel that people with...

Intention would be to recontribute immediately (the maximum benefit is limited by contribution caps and rules). You might want to or have to limit transfers to pension e.g to avoid mandatory withdrawals or if you are still working after a condition of release

E.g You put $1.4M into pension when TBC $1.6m 3 years later balance is $1.7M. TBC now $1.8M if you then want to add more, you can add up to $225k ($200k unused TBC+2/16×$2000) directly But If you withdraw $200k as lump sum, you can add $450k ($400k unused TBC+4/16×$2000) overall getting another...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

Good reason not to max out. Note that if the balance exceeds the TBV due to growth it doesnt matter. And if you make a lump sum withdrawal from.pension accpunt it reduces the Transferred Balance. Potenially useful

You get an uplift when the TBC increases =Unused from old TBC÷Old TBC×TBC increase

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

One of the consequences of the proposed legislation (as I understand it) is that it will push people into growth rather than income assets. Overseas stocks tend to have lower dividends than Australian but franking credits would mitigate some of this. Property investment is often driven by...

My own solution would be to make CGT (at 10%) payable on realised assets over age 60 (in pension and accumulation) if TSB>TBC (indexed and maybe increased). I'd never get elected though

I was under the impression that when you sell a bunch of CBA shares to fund the pension withdrawal after age 60, no CGT payable (unless other smsf members are not retired when its proportional to their relative TSBs)

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

Fair call. In the last few years though, the bulk of increase in balances has come from capital growth rather than dividends/rents. Lets assume 3% dividends/net rents, 7% capital growth Effective taxation rate of 4.5% on the portion not in pension (which with capital growth can be a lot higher...

    Superannuation Discussion + market volatility

How much tax is coming in from (very) affluent retirees though (particularly as CGT on super growth is effectively 0% after 60). Income tax pre-retirement is doing most of the heavy lifting. Considering you potentially spend over 50% time retired as you do working, I'm not sure how...

    2025 Amex Membership Rewards Devaluation

I tend to wait for a Amex:VA bonus. You then have miles in a non-expiring account that you can use on SQ/VA/QR or transfer to SQ if there is different availability

Credit Card Offers Qantas Premier Platinum Offers & Discussion

My last statememt was on 5 October but no points shown on statement or showing up on QF account Called and apparently the absence of points breakdown on statement is going to be permanent There is also a delay in crediting to QFF. They suggested waiting another 3-5 days. I was relying on them...

    General Medical issues thread

High calcium is usually due to an overactive parathyroid gland (your Endo should have ruled out any more serious cause by checking PTH levels). If the levels get very high then sometimes surgery is required, bur often it stays steady. I'm not an Endo but I dont usually advise rigorous calcium...
